Its always being odd n trying to wind but me up but this morning well! ..itd better start behaving itself before i find a hammer n smash it bits!

I bought a new computer about six weeks ago (it's lovely).

I felt a bit bad about chucking out the old one as it's only crime was not having any USB ports. However, the weekend before the new one was ready, the old one crashed on me and I lost a load of files as a result. It deserved to go in a skip!

I'm grateful to have my puter as it was given to me when i couldntve afforded to buy one (still couldnt!) but is being a pain in arse at the mo!

Worse computer releated thing that happened asides having a laptop nicked, was when the harddrive went on this machine of course we'd not relaly backed anything up luckly we managed to salvage everything off the old harddrive, onto the new one The next machine is having at least* two harddrives, one to back up on to So whats your PC been doing?

please dont mention dying harddrives! Id bnever know how to put a new one in

its just trying to be as annoying as possible..mainlyfreezing lots n not loading things properly! i had to log into yahoo meesenger 6 or so times this morning just to be able to read what had been said to me!

Hmmm, you running up to date anti virus and spi/add aware/bot type stuff?

I fink so..i dont really know

Could do with someone with more technical knowledge than me (a 5yr old will do ) to give it a look over for me..

You want something like AGV (the free virus doobry which is pretty good, ) running, and up to date virus definition files and something on the getting rid of spi ware side too, never remember what they're called

I have AVG and Zone Alarm on it .sluggy did that fo me last year..whether its up to date or not now i dnt know

NFG thread? if you open the AGV, it hsould give you an option somewhere to update the virus definitions or something hang on I've got it on this machine I'll go have a look oh no we haven't think we ran it for a while but use Nortons now Yeh, anyhow there should be an update doobry something whatsit in it somewhere there should also be an 'automatic update' setting, if thats turned on you'l be alright I guess

All sounds far too complex for my girly brain ill have a look later though

I had the free version of AVG6 on my old PC (new one came with it's own stuff) and I found it effective. However, 2 points.

1) It needs to be updated at least once a fortnight to keep up with the new viruses.

2) AVG6 free version expired at the end of January and has been replaced with version 7. If you haven't changed to the new version 7, you are not adequately protected. It's very easy to do via their website - hey, I did it!

I dont even know what version i had as it was all done for me and he didnt think to show me how to use it before turning into a pig

Anything i fiddle with usually ends up much worse!
