smiley - hugyou could try henna magw...I think lush do one that is natural .There is some sort of bleach component to most permanent dyes that is probably the problem.

Bahh, you can come here & eat the slugs which are eating my remaining plants if you like. It is perfect slug weather, ie: grey & wet & slimy.smiley - cross

As to the grey hair nonsense, i used to go for henna, mixed with beetroot juice or blackcurrant sirop, so it ended up more aubergine than carrot. But it's a pain having heaps of what resembles cat poo on your head for ages. Then i found a herbal tint thing called "Sanotint"; which is much easier & produces the same effect (there's no bleach in it & it can just be painted onto the roots)

I would think you can get it from Health Food shops, that's where i get it, i don't think it's a totally French product. Comes in lots of shades & if you don't like the colour, you only have to wait 4 or 5 washes for it to blend in & disappear.

I'm wondering whether to put a notice in my window saying "Hope yu enjoyed eating my herbs. By the way, i sprayed them all with insecticide the day before you lifted them, so do keep an emergency phone number at hand if you get tummy ache..."smiley - evilgrin

Funny you mention it, Terri, Sanotint is what I use. I'm at the source, so to speak, as I work in a Health Food shop and only pay the net price plus tax. And it's not French at all, but Italian/German.

smiley - ok Excellent!

I like the smell, but i don't like the fact if you aren't careful you can end up with a tinted neck. "i am *not* a redneck!"smiley - rolleyes

Ok, I've had a closer look now. It's an Italian firm, and the other is just the distributor for Germany. And it does contain bleach (hydrogen peroxide), but no ammonia. It's not distributed in the UK, though.

Yes, the smell is ok. I recently bought a cheap product, it never occurred to me that it would contain ammonia. The smell took my breath away and I nearly fainted. I'll not do that again. smiley - laugh

This seems to be the definitive answer, the sanotint people appear do make stuff that covers thesmiley - senior nonsense, yet contains no ammonia or hydrogen peroxide.

It seems to come from Italy but is sold throughout Europe. It's quite expensive for a little bottle *but* if you use a brush (not squirt it on as they tell you to do)smiley - winkeye just on the roots, it works out about the same as using henna, with a lot less fuss.

And seems Ok for allergy stuff:

Gawd, they should pay us for this, or at least supply us with freebies!

Maybe you have a different product in France then, because here, Sanotint does contain hydrogen peroxide.
It costs between €10.00 and €11.00´and is distributed in various countries (Canada, Czechoslovakia , Denmark, Greece,France, Spain, Kuwait, Germany, Russia, Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico, Switzerland, U.A.E. and USA - oh, and in Italy). No UK, though.
Mags, that could be your chance if you know enough about retail and marketing. smiley - winkeye

Hmm; i lived in Kuwait & worked in retail import stuff, they are incredibly strict there & test everything (in case it ever came into contact with a pigsmiley - rolleyes so i doubt it would get in if it told porky-pies on the label.

The one here is "Sanotint "Reflex" & states in Italian, German, French,English & (i think)Spanish:"no contiene amoniaco ni agua oxygenada"

If i can be bothered i will email them & ask for detailed proof.

Maybe that's what they call 'Sanotint Light' here then. I've never tried that.

Could well be. It works, but doesn't last long, i tend to top up every 3rd shampoo or so (but my hair is very thick & grows annoyingly fast!)

Little yellow plastic bottle, but a little goes a long way.
