I've only managed a couple of games of SoC so far, and struggled with it... I suspect a few more games would aid my understanding of it no end!
Yeah! I'm back, baby!

We found it caused some disagreements as players found themselves blocked off from certain resources. Too many players on too small a board.
Methinks we need to start an h2g2 tournament.
Yeah! I'm back, baby!

Suits me, although we need to find an uncheatable way of rolling dice.

I think our neutral 5th party has just volunteered.

The D&D nerds would quickly insist on a d4, d8, d10, d12 and d20 to go with it...

Yeah! I'm back, baby!

The smiley idea is the best idea for a new smiley I've seen in quite a long time.

If we do go ahead with it, I think it's quite important to start calling it a smiley right now, thank you.

... in the singular, in the plural, with, hopefully, probability matching matching the actual cast, 1/6 for any number on a single die,
02 03 04 05 06 07
03 04 05 06 07 08
04 05 06 07 08 09
05 06 07 08 09 10
06 07 08 09 10 11
07 08 09 10 11 12
1/36 for a 2 (snake eyes) or 12 (box cars)
1/18 for a 3 or an 11
1/12 for a 4 or a 10
5/36 for a 6 or an 8
1/6 for a 7
If there are two dice and each generates a number between 1 and 6 at random and independently of the other, that will generate the natural odds for a pair of dice.
Yeah! I'm back, baby!

Well, thank you for that elementary statistical analysis. I'm not sure what it was intended to achieve, though.
B
Yeah! I'm back, baby!
Mu Beta Posted Nov 8, 2011
Well, in that case, there's no sense having a smiley, when it's much more flexible to have

$u$ Posted Nov 8, 2011
I thought about that too. Maybe the should be fluffy ones to hang up in your Ford Escort. Or fluffy white
Yeah! I'm back, baby!
Mu Beta Posted Nov 8, 2011
There are already enough complaints about this site being tasteless without resorting to fluffy dice.
Anyway, if we do get onto a play-by-forum Settlers, we'll have to use a fixed arrangement of numbers, because I've only got the travel edition.

re: post 55, good point.
With a 3d model and randomization of the orientation of the dice and their point of emergence on to the screen, good rebound effects, etc., one would also have a basis for a good screen-saver, something comparable to Microsoft "bubbles" or Gnome "galaxies", possibly even a little better. Its a wonder no one has ever done it before.
Yeah! I'm back, baby!
ITIWBS Posted Nov 8, 2011
True, I'm tough minded about such things but it worries me a little just the same.
Key: Complain about this post
