My mum kept a grocery shop, and I was raised on out of date food.
I seem to recall there was some guy made a lot of money buying chicken unfit for human consumption, cutting the bad bits off, and selling it on to supermarkets.
We're a lot tougher than you'd think.
Having said that - during the Edwina Curry business I got salmonella poisoning - I was SERIOUSLY ill.

Do they come any other way? Are there part-cooked chickens wandering around out there? 
Yes, raw. There's so little meat on the things, we're hardly dealing with a big depth to cook through.

I wouldn't be allowed to do that. If I don't burn the food Lurch won't eat it. I left a joint in the rayburn for 4 hours by mistake the other week and he thought it was delicious.

I'm the opposite. I want my food to look like it's still capable of running away if I'm not quick enough.

Lurch won't eat owt that looks as though it might once have been ambulant and i can't eat owt that still smells as though it was. 
Ever seen anyone cooking meat with a peg on her nose?
