No problem.
My nick's from Blake's 7- Avon was one of the crew- the evil computer genius who nearly got away with embezelling 50 millions credits. Nasty git- quite happily shoot people in the back
I tend to hang out in askh2g2, or PR, or some of the danker corners where creationist vs. rationalist wars happen, basically, any where that looks interesting...
I can see you haven't read my PS- my career is there for all to see

Ahh Blake Seven The women in that always scared me as a child!
Doh about your job! I did read your PS a few weeks ago, but forgot to refresh my memory before posting this. So *puts up hands* guilty as charged.
Sounds an fun job, although after my 2 hour delay this morning, I got the hump with anything remotely connected to trains.
Can I ask how old you are?

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
I'm 21. Were you on the London-Kent line this morning, by any chance? .
It's not bad, it has lulls of around a week where not a lot happens. It's the Christmas Party tomorrow, so everyone's busy clearing jobs out the way.
Blake's 7 women are scary, in a strange, sexy sort of way.
What about you- what pays your bills?

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Yep, London to Dartford, and apart from the fire in New Cross that caused most of the trouble, we also had a broken down train stuck on our line.
Oh what joy!
We had our xmas party last week, total carnage but fun!
I get to par all my bills, worst luck I got a pretty cool job as a currency trader for a bank in the city though, so I can't grumble.
It thankfully pays enough so my wife Clare can stay home with the kids. So many couples have to both return to work these days
You got any significant other?

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
At least the fire wasn't the railway's fault- can't blame Railtrack for clothes warehouses catching fire
City eh? Couldn't stand that- I'm not keen on large towns, never mind cities like London.
Bruce is my other half- he's a researcher too, but he's not around very often- my fault, we only have one computer, and I hog it.
The family consists of him, me a dobbermann named Dougal, an occasional cat called Fresh, and any other strays that wander in and don't get shooed out

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
I can and will blame railtrack for everything :P
The fact that the driver of our train announced three different destinations throughout the journey didnt help!
Lol at you hogging the PC, Clare does that at home too. She's a researcher too, but doesn't get that much time on here, too busy emailing all her friends.
We have no pets, cos I'm allergic too them It's a shame cos I adore animals.
I hate the city too, I'm a country boy at heart. I really want to get out of london as soon as I possibly can!

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
Wait 'till you've paid off your morgage, then move to the Midlands and buy a house for cash- I know a number of people that have done that.
Bad luck being allergic to pets- Bruce was to cats, but after a few weeks he sort of got immune to it
You won't be able to blame Railtrack for anything soon- it'll be Network Rail I assume the driver didn't know where he'd be able to terminate...
While we wait
Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Yep only 16 more years till the mortgage is paid off!
Except we want to move to a bigger house, so that might get bumped back upto 25 years Bah!
I've tried all sorts of ways to get immune to my allergy, but no luck, just the sight of a cat has me sneezing.
Erm the train driver thought he knew everything! The platform sighns said Victoria, but the driver announced rather gruffly. I'm the driver, I know where this trai is going, and its going to charring cross!
The fact we ended up in blackfriars was quite funny really!
Can I ask what Bruce's online name is?

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
Bruce! He got the nick from Clive the Flying Ostrich- He wears a silly Oz type hat, and when he gets pissed his London accent comes out, which sounded Oz to Clive, so he was Christened Bruce
Sounds like a dumb driver to me- if he gets reported he'll be disaplined for not studying his route sheets properly.
Ahh, well, you'll have to decide which matters more- a bigger house in the short term, or the chance to get out the city faster...
Bruce had that with cats, running eyes, sneezing. Then after about three weeks or so of being constantly exposed to cats, it just, cleared up.

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Lol, why do so many people confuse londo accents with australian ones?
Think we've already decided a bigger house is more important. With a bit of luck property prices will be a bit higher in 16 years time, so the bigger place we can buy, the more it should be worth.
So even if its not paid off, we can still sell the house and pay the remaining mortgage. and still have enough left for a nice place in the country.
I can't really see myself retiring at 45 though. maybe 50 with some luck.
I tried the cat thing for 22 years at home, my mum always had one, never stopped me sneezing or streaming eyes Evil mother I have!

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
I dunno about the accents- they sound nothing like each other to me!
Good thinking on the house front- we're still renting, trying to have a deposit and failing
Nasty mum I never used to like cats very much, but since this one came and won't go away, I've got used to it being around, being curled up on top of monitor as I type, with the dog glaring at it, but thinking better of starting another scrap
Aside of Red Dwarf, what are your hobbies (you've got me being nosy now )
While we wait
Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Good luck with the deposit! It's terribly hard to get on the property ladder these days, I hope you both manage it.
Hobbies, hmmm dunno if it counts, but my kids are just about everything to me at the moment, I really can't get enough of them. We have one boy who's 3, and a daughterof just 8 months, who is so cute!
I've always been into sci-fi or any sort of fiction book, I love reading.
My wife is a big film fan, something I can appreciate, but not with the same passion she does.
I do enjoy fishing, dull I know, but it's my only escape to nature. I really need to see some trees and breathe some fresh air every once on a while.

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
I go climbing and walking for that sort of get away thing- only when clinging half way up a rockface can you truly appreciate the beauty of nature
Four part-time kids is quite enough for me, thank you very much. It's hard enough keeping Bruce and the animals in order!
I enjoy pretty much all SF, esp. British telefantasy and TV sci-fi

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Lol, I'm sure Bruce isn't that much hard work!
Climbing sounds like alot of fun,did a bit when I was younger actually. Bit too much like hard work for a lazy git like me.
You ever read any of Terry Pratchetts books? he writes some very funny fantasy sci-fi.
You ever play any computer games? I used to quite into all that, but dont get the time for it these days.
I must admit it's quite unusual to meet a girl who likes sci-fi so much. I thought my wife Clare was the onl one. It's normally considered a very blokey thing, which is a shame really.

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
Been into SF since I was teeny. I always wanted to watch Dr. Who instead of the those CBBC programmes.
I love climbing, its just so much fun, and the sense of achievement is great. Plus you get to abseil and play with fancy kit
I've read most Pratchet books, except the latest one. The iwtches are my favourite characters, followed by the wizards. I *know* pepole like that, esp. Ridcully.
Games- I go through phases of playing one or two all the time, then stop for months. The only ones I've ever played seriously were Doom II and Heretic II- I love those. Oh, and Battle Chess .

Simon the Silly Sausage (Gone AWOL from h2g2) Posted Dec 18, 2002
Batle chess. Wow there's a blast from the past. I used to love that Never won a game, but the animations were so cool.
Who was your Dr who? I grew up through 4 Doctors, an all very different they were too. John Pertwee, only a vague memory of him really.
Tom Baker, he is and always will be the Dr!
The noncey blokewas it simon something? never liked him
And then syvester Mccoy, quirky lttle geek, but lovable with it.
I was just chatting to someone else on h2g2 yesterday about favorite pratchett characters. I went for Rincewind, cos he's as clumsy as me, but the witches books are my favorite. mainly because they are set out of town I think. God I crave the country life more than I imagined lol.
I was also into Doom II and heretic and quake and just about any other FPS you could play. Got into the online playing alot too, great sense of community there, but a bit futile really isnt it.
Think I'm getting too old lol

I've still got it- I play when Bruce is on a night out sometimes (he's a truck driver), usually I play chess with him though.
Simon? Err, if you mena the one before Sylv McCoy, you mean Colin Baker, although you appear to have missed Peter Davison out the list Peter dressed like a cricketter, Colin were a horrible multi-coloured coat.
The last three I remember, Davison only a little bit, I was only 2 or 3 at the time. Colin is my favourite- he didn;t getthe ebst of the TV stories, but he's had some excellent audio stories from Big Finish recently.
Never tried online gaming- I don't think I ought to- I might like it and spend even *more* time online
Heretic II is my current challenge- I play Doom II for stress relief
I like the wizards' approach to life- just chuck it in and see what happens But Nanny Ogg makes me laugh the most.

Whoops sorry about the delay in replying, somehow missed your reply.
Doh!
I've got about 4 chess sets at home, but Clare's never really got into it. I had to teach her how to play, then she beat me, now she refuses to play incase I win one back ! lol
Peter davidson he was the one I didnt like.
How could I forget about Colin Baker. silly me.
Ooooh you just have to try online gaming! Imagine playing doom against real opponents. It's brilliant, adds so much to the games.
After all computers are predictable, people arent.
Nanny ogg is my favorit. I just know thats what Clare will be like when she's older I adore her it.
While we wait
Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 18, 2002
You, see, that's why I won't try online gaming- I'd end up spending even longer on the 'puter
If I've had a terrible day at work, I bung god mode on and blast the Hell out of everything in sight Heretic II I play when I want a challenge.
Bruce and I play about once a week- he *always* beats me- he's really good. I don't know anyone that's beaten him.
Nanny Ogg reminders me of my mother- except about twenty yeras older (note that mum, if you ever see this )
Davison is okay... but very different coming straight after Tom, I think that's the problem.
