...is when you run out of tape just before Lester gets shot by the latent homosexual next-door-neighbour in "American Beauty"...

Arrrggghh!

Good movie though, isn't it?

Yep! smiley - smiley I had seen it before...only the ending was ruined by an impromtu phonecall from a relative.
Another *Aaargh!* to go with the film. I'll never see it all the way through without disruption!!

I hate that - that's what answerphones are for. I won't answer the phone if I'm doing something more important - like being 5 minutes from the end of a film.

You could just rent the video or DVD, and watch it in the middle of the night with the phone off the hook. smiley - run

I don't pick up the phone or answer the door these days unless I am expecting it...I first watched it a year or so back, before I adopted that philosophy. I shall buy the video I think.

Spanking good film though. Thora Birch is one of my favorite actresses...have you seen Ghost World? Fantastic film.

Captain Kebab

Nope, I haven't seen it. I don't think I know anything about it to be frank, but I shall keep my eyes peeled. Actually, I'll just Google for it later on and get a bit more info, then I can sound intelligent and informed! smiley - winkeye

I don't recall having seen Thora Birch in anything else, but it's the Admiral who normally says stuff like, 'Wow - look who it is! He/she was in whatchamacallit!' I tend to not notice that kind of stuff. smiley - erm

Well she is in Ghost World!! Steve Buscemi is in it too (Resevoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, and he also starred in Pete & Pete)....I am sure I have seen her in another film. She *is* brilliant though.

Captain Kebab

Yeah - Steve Buscemi is good. I found the Ghost World website, just watched the trailer - it looks fun! I'll have to catch the film. smiley - smiley

I thought Thora Birch was good in American Beauty (well they pretty much all were)- according to her website she's been in 16 films including 'Dungeons and Dragons' and 'The Hole' - neither of which I've seen but they're the only ones she's been in as an adult that I'd heard of.

It's a shame you can't follow off-site links. smiley - sadface

I'm a bit of a David Lynch fan myself. I like off-beat. smiley - weird

Post 9

What's in the trailer? I bet it's the bit in the car where Buscemi goes "Have some more children while you're there!" smiley - laugh

Ooh. Just cleaned me glasses. I can *almost* see the screen properly now...

Lynch. Lost Highway - the only one I have *really* been able to get into. Takes a while with his stuff. But he is amazing...

Post 10

Captain Kebab

Yeah - that bit's in there! smiley - laugh And there's a load of bits of dancing and Thora shaking her hair, a conversation where she says she's sexually frustrated, some discussion of Steve Buscemi's 'type', there's a scene with a muscley guy with a pair ov nunchaku - quite a lot of images actually.

Oh yeah - 'No shirt no service!' smiley - laugh

My first Lynch movie was Eraserhead - not for the faint of heart! smiley - winkeye I'm one of those saddoes who watched the whole of Twin Peaks - I have it all on tape. I love the atmosphere and tension he creates - you never quite know where he's going till he takes you there.

One of my cloest RL friends is a Lynch freak...it's only through buying him a book for Xmas and having a peek before I gave it to him, that I discovered the meaning of Lost Highway...

I love that film for just so many reasons! Patricia Arquette in *that( dress and blode wig in the garage. The spooky gothic guy. The scene on the car bonnet...
"I want you" "I want you"
- "You can't have me"
...Henry Rollins being the guard in the jail. Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez as pornstars at the end. The soundtrack having some of the best music and the best bands on it. That guy that gets impaled on the glass coffee table.

Sheer excellence.

The best part in Ghost World is the tampon-in-a-tea-cup scene...you'll know when you get there...

...then the *no shirt no service* guy...

I watched it on Xmas day. Was hilarious. And I smiley - love her fashion too!

smiley - ok

Hooray!

Another film I would recommend is "Doom Generation"...bit of an extreme cinema/teen flick...but it is really good. Funny too. One of my favorites. It's Rose McGowan's first film.

Ooh. And also, "Freeway"...a little known Reese Witherspoon movie...another extreme cinema one...another favorite. Funny as well.

Then again. I might be warped.

Who knows? smiley - bigeyes

I saw American Beauty twice in the cinema, and I plan to leave a copy of it with a lawyer with instructions to give it to me in 35 years time...

I watched it earlier, I thought it would bring me down as its what I took the ex-missus to see on our first date. But it didnt, I really am surprising myself these days!

clzoomer- a bit woobly

I always thought the neighbour wasn't latent but the product of a homosexual rape in the army. Adds a nice dynamic even if there isn't any plot to support it!smiley - biggrin
