By proof, you mean that my e-mail address was used in the 'From:' header, thus my e-mail address appears as the sender? That is not proof.
Proving it actually came from me is what you need to do.

He's right, why should we believe a (literally) screaming maniac who is making easily faked claims? As you (I think) said, bull walks.

I have no problem with him informing the Police though. That way it'll get cleared up quicker and easier. I can easily prove that those e-mails were not sent from me.

Wow..the things you miss when distracted for a few hours by naughty websites . Fair bit of ranting, I take it?

I think it'll only take a few days before they run out of attack methods. So far they've been pretty mundane. First the spamming and now unsubstantiated personal attacks. A bit like throwing sticks and dung at the people huddled around the camp fire.

Well. Those kinds of people lack certain development in the brain region, so I'm hoping the goldfish memory will kick in and they'll all go back down the pub.

They're not dumb - they're p****d off. But you're right, they'll eventually mellow out.

Saturnine Posted Feb 12, 2004
You have to be dumb to act like that when you are pissed off. Seriously Nyssa, there is no defending that kind of behaviour.

Well, in my experience, intelligent people do their best not to rise to it. And of course, when they DO rise to the 'bait', they don't do it like -- *points* -- that!

Haylle (Nyssabird) ? mg to recovery Posted Feb 13, 2004
Nevertheless...maybe I'm misunderstanding what you define as intelligence. Sat seems to have a small obsession with the concept of 'the herd' vs. 'me, the intelligent, the strong, 'whatever.' It's just been my observation that ability or capacity for rational thought tends to have very little to do with behavior. I mean, come on. Humans are quite intelligent (some might argue). But what kind of dumbsh**s would organize themselves by and large into state societies? Totally contrary to biological (and social, and ecological, and...) logic.

Evolution. And not just of the 'Natural Selection' kind. Social evolution. There are really, really stupid people - but that's not to say because they live in a civilised country, that they're not really stupid.

Haylle (Nyssabird) ? mg to recovery Posted Feb 13, 2004
That wasn't my point. My point was that the 'stupid' actions of a person can belie any level of intelligence. They are not necessarily related.

Obviously I'm preaching to the converted for the most part, but /that/ is the kind of stuff that drove me out of here. Hence my wariness in waiting to see what Telewest'll do in the next couple of weeks or so.

Haylle (Nyssabird) ? mg to recovery Posted Feb 13, 2004
Argh..adaptiveness isn't even necessarily related to intelligence. I give up.
I guess I don't understand, kitty. You left because of stupid people, or so I hear. But now the stupid to not stupid ratio is within reasonable limits? Was it just that you were bored with the site because there was little worthwhile interaction, or were you honestly 'driven out.' The latter confuzzles me.

Go and look at the thread called "????" on my Uspace Nyss.
I was willing to leave the digiboxers alone, and keep myself away from them, until they came to my space and decided to attack me. I wasn't bored with the site, I enjoyed it though the flood of barely-legible postings and threads that were derailed into little more than slow-mo AOL-chat-logs were making it hard to find conversations that sparked the same intellectual joy as they did when I first got here. But when people start coming to MY space and attacking MY choice of information there, then get their friends around retard-attack formation after I tell them to stuff it where it fits, that's where I draw the line.
Yes, I know that the removal of the digiboxers isn't going to get rid of /all/ of that, but by Christ it's cleared up a lot. That's undeniable. And I will unashamedly admit I enjoy the 'cleaner' conversations around Ask H2G2 now that that proportion of the population has been removed for the time being.
