This place can be a bit daunting at first. It took me months before I ever did anything much with my personal space and months before I ever really chatted to anyone. I'd never done any coding before and my personal space remained in plain text for a long time. It's actually quite easy to use basic GuideML though. I found that looking at the code that other researchers use helps. The code for a guide entry can be viewed by typing Test in the URL and removing the letter of the guide entry
eg. http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Test570638
The code for a personal space can be viewed by typing TestUserPage in the URL and omitting the U.
eg. http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/TestUserPage171266
If you want to brighten up your personal space but don't feel confident with GuideML yet, you could always put in a few smileys. Their code is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/smiley They also work well in conversation too but I'm a bit of a smiley addict.
No matter how expert or novice a person is at GuideML, this place is still a wonderful place to meet people and get involved with inane chat, absurd conversation and even sensible discussion Have fun and hopefully we'll do one, if not all three

Ta 4 that - I've already found a few conversations. One thing strikes me about this forum is that people actually talk about the subject that is the title of the conversation - compare that with chatrooms where they all seem to sit around saying lots without actually saying anyting - and it makes a refreshing change. Perhaps the researchers are a bit more intelligent than the run-of-the-mill internet user... or am I getting ahead of myself here?
Anyhow, as I'm going cross-eyed as I've been now and the boss won't appreciate the phone bill going any higher, I'm off for a and a . Cheers.

"One thing strikes me about this forum is that people actually talk about the subject that is the title of the conversation" - where've you been reading then? Once you read enough h2g2 forums you'll quickly realise that no matter what the conversation they usually end in a virtual drinking binge In serious threads it is considered impolite to go off topic but then there are plenty of places to go on h2g2 where the word 'serious' is not understood
"Perhaps the researchers are a bit more intelligent than the run-of-the-mill internet user... " - oh, definitely
already? You'll be a complete addict in under a week at this rate Enjoy the TTYL
