I did a similar thing when I first read the Hitchhikers books. They were suggested to me by a number of friends so I decided to go to my local library, borrow them and read them to see what all the fuss was about. The only book available was The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, so I read that first. From what I remember, the order I read them in was: 2, 4, 3, 1, 5. Thoroughly confusing really but a testament to their greatness that they were still thoroughly enjoyable. I have since read them many times, in the correct order. That feeling when I read them for the first time in the right order was amazing. I finally had some understanding of what was going on

That is something! I thought I was confused when I first read them!
I did a similar thing with the Dirk Gently series, but there's only 2 of those so it's a bit easier! I have yet to read them again in the right order. The first one's hilarious though. I like the bit about the industrial grade answering machine, and the horse in the bathroom!

I loved the horse in the bathroom. I haven't read Dirk Gently for years, I really must read them again - thanks for reminding me. I'm actually reading Peter Pan at the moment. I've never read it before, only seen the Disney version and pantomime. I think my reading choice is reflecting my current state of mind responsibility, I don't want to be an adult, can I be a child again please?
