You seem to have some similar interests to me (I've wandered over from the 'Little Bit of Love' tab posting...), so I thought I'd say hi properly.
So, 'Hi properly'

Hi!
Only just seen your posting-haven't been on h2g2 for ages, uni work kinda got in the way, so I've been catching up with everyone.
How are you?
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Oct 29, 2005
I'm O.k, and that's O.k- I haven't been on here in a while myself... I'm a naughty 'g2-er.
What are you doing at uni?

Kaz Posted Oct 30, 2005
film type stuff. its pretty heavy going on the technical side. I'm doing stuff in photoshop right now that I can't quite get my head around, hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually!
Hows the music? Just listened to Little Bit Of Love and still can't work it out. All I know is there's an E chord in there somewhere!
What other stuff do you like besides Queen and all things Free related, bad co etc?
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Nov 1, 2005
Sounds pretty interesting
I haven't got much time for the music at the moment... would be nice if the band was doing a bit more, then I'd be forced into it... but applying for new jobs pretty much takes up most of the time that's not covered by working in my current job... lol
You talking in terms of music, or other hobbies?
Music- wise, I'm pretty eclectic. I like most stuff, from Frank Sinatra through to the Darkness and Jet, passing by a large portion of 60's/70's stuff and a smattering of 80's. I don't like much dance/club type stuff though, and I hate rap-type 'music'. And I would very much like to unleash nasty violence on any and all boybands.
Other than music, I'm a maths graduate, so I'm all but unemployable. I'm interested in most sciences, particularly physics, and even more particularly astronomy (my degree was in maths with astronomy). So yeah, I'm a geek. I also like science fiction (but I'm not a trekkie, lol). I read like no one else I've ever known, and what I read is usually pretty varied (at the moment I'm reading Moby Dick and a Doctor Who BBC novel).
And now I'm waffling, so I'll stop. What about you?

Me?
Well, I guess music and film are my major interests (to the point of sometimes getting very anorak -ish!) I've got quite into politics and current affairs stuff over the past few years (total news addict!) Haven't had much time for reading recently (not for pleasure at least) the last book I've had a chance to have a look at was Robin Cook's the point of departure. I might eventually get time to read the whole thing. Would like to as it seems very interesting.
Its quite nice to know that I'm not the only person out there who hates dance/house/hiphop! I just don't get it. Also, the whole sampling phenomenon is really starting to annoy me. Its just laziness on the part of artists who can't be bothered to construct their own riffs.
I don't think being interested in science is geeky! I always found physics kind of logical when I was at school, and chemistry. Was always totally useless at maths (re-sat my GCSE at college, and I'm very proud of my grade C! ) except fractions and the algebra based stuff which I found made sense to me, rather bizzarre, I know..
Have you read that article in Salmon of Doubt about Atheism and science?
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Nov 7, 2005
Ahhhh, I'm not into politics at all, except when it crosses over with current affairs that I have opinions about. And even then, it's not really the politics I'm interested in!
I know... I can't stand it when I hear a 'new' single which is basically an older track with an inappropriate drum beat added, and some idiot going "Uh! Yeah!" in the background.
Science is geeky! It's just how you percieve geekiness that's maybe different. I see it as no bad thing. Most of my favourite people exhibit geekiness in different levels
Yes, I have The whole book was great- very insightful- but I did enjoy that article particulary

I thought it was very clever. The idea that God is something we've created, rather like money, if you took it away the world would still fuction, but differently, was kind of interesting. I'd never really thought of it that way before. I wouldn't say I believed in God, but I don't believe we are completely on our own either. that's just too depressing! I think fate exists, but then people argue thats the same sort of thing, don't they?
As geekiness stands, I'm sure I qualify somehow! and I agree: After all, without geeks, how do we solve all out IT problems!!!!
I hate PC's....
...much prefer Macs...
Hi :-)
Kaz Posted Nov 9, 2005
By the way, I was going to ask, After the Queen gig, did everything take ages to sink in? Cos I know when I went to see the Finn Brothers earlier this year it took ages, cos it was pretty amazing, not quite the same as going to see Queen I know, but still bloody good. its the whole 'wowness' thing- I was trying to explain to Not Panicking.
Do you like Crowded House?
Tried to get tickets for Eric Clapton @ the Royal Albert earlier this week. No such luck. All the affordable seats were gone
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Nov 13, 2005
That's funny, because that's exact;y what I've thought ever since I've had a desire to think about things. Just never really been able to explain it in a way that other people understand. Then Douglas just gets up one morning and plonks it down on paper...
I don't think being on our own is depressing. And I don't like to believe in fate, either. The idea that it's all essentially out of my hands is much more depressing, as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to think I'm a free spirit, able to roam time and space as I see fit, not stuck on one track, destined never to leave it.
Lol, I'm certainly not an IT geek! I hate PCs too, and would much prefer a mac-oriented society. When (or if) I get a proper job, I'll get a mac as well, but at the moment I'm unfortunately stuck to a PC, or face not being compatible with anything.
Yes, the buzz of the concert took a while to settle down- it's not fully left yet! Mind you, neither has the buzz from seeing Brian in concert, and that was in '98!
I don't really know Crowded House. I can say that the name is not giving me any negative feelings, so I must have liked what I've heard, but I couldn't name any songs off the top of my head.
I'd love to see Clapton...

Hi :-)
Kaz Posted Nov 13, 2005
So would I!
hmm, crowded house songs-you must know Weather With You, surely? everywhere you go, always take the weather with you, everywhere you go, always take the weather...
Now I'm totally jealous...not only did you get to see Queen, you've also seen Brian? Not fair!
btw, I didn't mean to say you were an IT geek. Sorry. Nice to know someone out there agrees with me that Windows is totally rubbish and macs are better!
When I said about fate I didn't necessarily rule out free will! What I meant was, I think sometimes things happen in sequences, and some things are meant to happen. Or maybe that's better put the other way round, I dunno. That's the only way I can explain it. All I know is, there have been things that have happened to me that definetly were not just coincidence. Like, for example, this week, I tried to get tickets to see EC, as I said. If they hadn't been sold out, I probably wouldn't have gone looking to see what else was on at other places. Turns out the Eagles are going to be touring in Southampton, and ELO are going to be on in Portsmouth.
I think that is weird, call me superstitious or whatever...
Noticed you said you were in a band, or am I mistaken? what kind of stuff do you play?
Hi :-)
Kaz Posted Nov 13, 2005
just checked eagles website. My mistake, Twickenham, not southampton. (bit of a big mistake-whoops!) that's the trouble when someone in the know tells someone, who tells someone else...
Tickets are a bit steep...
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Nov 20, 2005
Yes, I know that one I probably know others as well, just can't get them off the top of my head.
Hey! Life's not fair
Lol, I wasn't offended. Just wanted to clear that up- although I can usually make them do what I want them to, I don't get much pleasure out of it.
I find it difficult to see scope for free will in a universe run by fate. Surely the two ideas are opposites of the same scale?
I'd quite like to see the Eagles and ELO as well.
Yeah, I am We play stuff by the Darkness, Free, Bad Company, Queen, Jet, GnR... even some Van Morrison in the right venue. various stuff
Do you play in a band?
TK[1]
Hi :-)
Kaz Posted Nov 25, 2005
Me? Play in a band? No way, I'm nowhere near good enough! I taught myself guitar and piano and its taken me 4years on the guitar to even get to a standard I'm happy with! I have been considering setting up one of those folk clubs though, you know, where you go down your local and people bring their guitars, banjo's etc and just strum the night away, and sing a bit.
I'm hoping to go electric soon. Got to a point where I think its worth doing.
But you must be pretty good on the guitar to play Free/Bad Co stuff surely? they're not always easy songs are they?
I think we'll just agree to differ on the fate/free will thing, cos its just started to get way too muddly for me!
I dunno why the Eagles seem to get such derisive press really. I think they're a good band. Mind you, its not much different to how most bands get treated. like with Franz Ferdinand and Keane, one minute they were really cool and everyone liked them, and then all of a sudden everyone changed their minds. Personally I can't be doing with stuff like that. If I like a band I'll stick with them.
Apparently the ELO that are appearing in concert is the old lineup, not with Jeff Lynn and all that lot. Shame.
Hi :-)
TeaKay Posted Dec 4, 2005
Lol, I'm not good enough either...
Sounds like a good thing. I'd like to do something like that, if I had the confidence.
Electric's easier than acoustic anyway, especially if you're just doing rhythm.
They're not too bad. Mostly three- chord blues variations. And it's always easier if you like what you're playing.
Lol, fair enough
I think it's the Country-Rock theme. Country gets a bad press, and proper Rock's had a bit of a beating recently.
Same here. I like the band, rather than the fans...
A guy I work with much prefers the old lineup. I'm not really sure which is which.
TK[1]
Hi :-)
Kaz Posted Dec 5, 2005
I'm not sure which is which either!
You're right, country does get bad press. mind you, it is in a bit of a state at the moment. Occasionally I catch Bob Harris' programme and I'm not really quite sure where country thinks its going, its sort of trying to be mainstream and by accident its almost sending itself up.
Ok.
Think you're probably right, I'm finding the earlier Free stuff much easier (I'm a Mover etc). I guess even the best bands have to start with open chords! Recently learnt '39 as well. That's great. Brian is brilliant cos his songs are just so simple
Do you really think electric's easier than acoustic? I reckon it might be slightly kinder on my fingers as I tried out a couple in the guitar shop the other day and you don't need to do much to get a nice sound do you? or maybe the pickups were just really sensitive, I dunno!
Yeah, its difficult isn't it? I'm trying to work out how best to drum up support for one of those acoustic get-togethers. Its pretty hard cos most people in their early twenties aren't very into folk.
Key: Complain about this post
