A Bit about Grocl
To borrow a sentiment from Walt Whitman, nearing the completion of a half century on this planet, I feel I am about ready to start my life. Clearly the first twenty-five years I was virtually a mindless piece of flotsam, enjoying every bit of the universe which came my way. There were setbacks and occasions of extreme dismay, of course; death of a parent at twelve, grandparents and uncles passing too early, bloody noses and scraped knees, bruised egos and broken hearts. All in all, however, I enjoyed the benefits of white, male American born in the middle of the twentieth century. Attended a well-respected high school in my home state of New Jersey and a leading university in the neighboring state of Pennsylvania.
My career has been one in education. The first two decades in special education, mostly with children who have experienced extreme emotional upheaval. The last few years I have been a principal of an elementary school, dealing with children ages four through ten or eleven, corresponding to grades pre-kindergarten through fifth.
Married at 27, a father of three, two boys and one girl. Turning fifty in 2002. Ready to go to work.
