The new house is going to be lovely when we have finished. At the moment there's too much plaster dust and half-finished projects to really be fully comfortable but I probably feel more at home in this house than I did in the four years we spent at the last one, which is a good sign.

How are things with you?

Things are great here---I'm biting fingernails over the veggies in the garden---we have better luck with flowers here although there is a lot shorter growing season here than in North Carolina. We do have pretty blue jays, goldfinches and a rather elusive indigo bunting with sparrows and iridescent grackles at our squirrelresistant birdfeeder.


Weather is too uncertain for root vegtables---I go to the local farmers market for those.

I'm growing things in my garden for the first time. I have had an allotment in the long past but when we moved here the previous residents left us some strawberries, onions and leeks. We've planted up some peas and carrots in the vague hopes they will survive, so who knows!

A grackle? What a wonderful word! It looks a bit like a British starling or maybe a jackdaw.
