ABBA were mainly 80s, weren't they? I recently realized that the 80s were basically a dead period in music, framed by the Sex Pistols on one side and Nirvana on the other.

Yes, I agree with that - its hard to think of a really good 80s band - although there must have been *some*!

I don't so much hate ABBA as all the rubbish that spawned from them. So many modern pop/dance groups seem to feel that they owe something of their style to ABBA, and that's enough reason to hate them for me.
If you haven't guessed yet, I'm an indie person.

My brother used to play for an indie band, but even my 8 year old son likes Abba. Mamma Mia is touring near us, and we're all going to see it.

I jsut like pop I can sing along to. The world is my karaoke bar.

I like music I can sing along to as well, and I do. Just try and stop me doing the words to any Blur song...

But don't the lyrics actually *mean* something? I like the vaccuousness of pop sounds.

Have you ever listened to the lyrics of an Idlewild song? If they start making asense, they seem to stick in a contradiction just to remedy that.
