Muse of Nitpickers?
Cheerful Dragon Started conversation Jan 16, 2002
Hi there!
I've just stopped by to say hello because I'm intrigued by your nickname. Why have you called yourself 'Muse of Nitpickers?' I ask because I am one. It's one of my traits that people either get used to or hate - I often nitpick films. It's not that I don't like films. I love them. I just wish film-makers would get their facts / editing / continuity right. Are you similarly inclined, or do you nitpick other things?

People don't realize how much fun nitpicking films is. Whenever I see a film, you will find me leaning over to the person next to me, whispering 'Of course, that should actually take several hours' or 'Wasn't that thing 10 metres taller a minute ago?' If I can get away with it, I'll do it for TV as well. I'm glad to find someone who actually agrees with me on these things.
My biggest gripe is with bad science in fiction. I read a lot of this, and I firmly believe that you can have all the excitement, etc. without stepping outside what we don't know is impossible.
As far as the nickname goes, I took it when I joined Musehome here on h2g2. I'm not computer-literate enough to post links on my Space, but find someone else with 'Muse of' in their Nickname and you'll probably find a link to Musehome.

I hope that links are allowed in people's personal space, because I'm going to include one in this posting. I'll check back later and post again, if it's been moderated out.
If you really enjoy nitpicking, why not become a 'Registered Nitpicker', like I am. Go to [URL removed by moderator]and register. It's free, and you can then post nitpicks and comment on other people's nitpicks. I've been a registered nitpicker for a few years now, and my name is in the top 15. (It used to be in the top 5, but it's a while since I've posted any nitpicks, so I might have dropped a few places.) My most nitpicked films are 'The Mummy' (Don't watch that after a trip to Egypt. It's totally inaccurate, historically!), 'The Rock' (I enjoy the film, but...), 'For a Few Dollars More' (Look out for the elastic inserts in a bandit's boots) and 'The Truman Show' (A lot of the shots that are supposed to be from the 'Truman Show' cameras would be impossible).

Sorry, moderators have struck again. Try describing the URL (what does that stand for, anyway). I'm told that hundreds of mistakes have been spotted in Gladiator, and even I saw that his dead wife had a watch on.

Try entering 'nitpickers' and 'movies' in your favourite search engine. I use 'Google', and that came up with the site as the first item. Alternatively, add '.com' after 'nitpickers' in the address / location box of your browser.
URL stands for 'Universal Resource Locator' (I think).

I've been on holiday. There aren't enough computers round the house at home to accomodate my whole family so this gets pushed down the line.
Before you posted, though, I was around rather more. We must have just kept missing each other.

Thanks. Hope you're good too.
Ironically, I may be offline for the next three weeks as well. I have a friend coming from the opposite end of the country on Monday, and sitting in front of a computer would be rude. After that, I'll be taking the actual out-of-country part of my holiday in France for two weeks.

I took you're advice, went, and came back. I'm at uni now, so I ought to be able to correspond on h2g2 most days.

*shrug* I'll be patient if you return the favour, which will probably be a bigger burden given this six-day gap.
Uni is fine. I got my timetable yesterday and attend my first lecture on Monday.
The weather was a bit iffy in France, but I had a nice relaxing time, which was good.

Erm, university...
I was in Germany for all of 6 hours odd on a coach journey to Prague and back a couple of years ago. Admittedly, it was early summer, but the weather there seemed fine.

Have fun. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the chateau and cathedral at the top of the hill. And _do_ take the opportunity to drink some extra-cheap but rather good Czech beer. Also, try to find the U Fleku brewery (very small, don't sell outside Prague any more) which sells a beer unlike any other I have tasted.

Shame. In that case, it will be Eisbehr (something spiritous, I am told) or absinthe, although it was the non-halucinogenic stuff and I am told you can get that in the UK now.
