Lack of Imagination
Posted Nov 25, 2001
How does an elderly mortal cope without an imagination? When I read all the wonderful places that the researchers and friends get to, and I am stuck with my feet firmly on the ground, metaphorically speaking, I am thrilled and entranched at their flights of fancy. Do you think it is something that I can learn? I do hope so. But perhaps when I have learnt it I shall go flying off into space, which at my age is uncomfortably close to the real McCoy. Can one be a philosopher AND have imagination? Or does one have to have an imagination in order to be a philosopher? Certainly not if one is a logcial positivist which I am not. Oh dear my brain is whirring around and I would also like to be swinging on a hammock high up in the trees of the rainforest sipping a G&T - perhaps not - an iced anis would be more to my liking. I must dash before my imagination is let out any further. But why rein it in? the Corsican desperately trying to be a sensible AR 1

Political interviews
Posted Nov 6, 2001
I get really upset at the aggressiveness of the political commentators. Really it is not necessary for people of opposing views to have to have an intelligence system working in their opponents camp. The questions of the political commentators do the work for them. Does the role of a politcial commentator give him/her the right to be very often downright rude and virtually insulting.? And yesterday when one actually had a close up of some passengers alighting from a plane in some remote mountainous country and then the commentator reported that they had been asked to censor the picture, they did not. Imagine what would have happened during the second World War if all the secret agents who were dropped into enemy occupied territory had been identified and seen on TV throughout the world. How much responsability to his/her country does a political commentator have?. I am speaking not only of events in far off Asia but also events closer to home.
