Me again! I saw your name in the RSVP list for the London meet, and I thought that maybe, just maybe... And I was right! (Happens a lot more often here than IRL) Is it OK if I just leave off the 1, since you're the same person, anyway? I tend to shorten names... If you want to keep up with the conversations in your first journal, go to 'Advanced Search' (up in the banner) and scroll down to 'Find friends' (I'm not sure if that's the exact title, but I think it's pretty close...) and enter Also ran... You can either answer both the journals (I've got a question for you in one of them) or click on the bit at the bottom that says 'Suscribe to this conversation'
Anyway, welcome back! Have a mufflewhump...

Also ran 1 Posted Nov 8, 2001
Dear dear Amy, Thank you for your super welcome and also the very useful list of figures and numbers which you gave me to track my old account. I did it and got completely bewildered by all the replies to my mistake. Anyway, a field day was held by all and old fuddy-duddy has had a high old time trying to get my fractured life together again. Anyway, thank you for all your help. How on earth do you know how to do all those things. I am continually amazed at the depth of knowledge which the young have. I enjoyed reading your CV (I call it that because I cannot remember the correct name for it)The only thing that concerned me was how on earth do you do anything else if you are online all the time? I find that I want to print-out so much of what I find - at the moment I am trying to understand what is happening in Asia, and wishing that somehow September 11th had not happened. I have a brother who lives in Port Washington and in a village near them forty young people were lost. It is all so sad. Certainly TV brings it all to life, but I find that I just get quite desperate about it and one's inability to DO anything - except of course pray. Well my dear little friend, take care of yourself, I have decided to keep both sites open, and thanks to your shortcut I shall be able to do so. Someone has also suggested an abbreviation which is AR. so now I can say AKA AR!! Sleep tight. Also ran (1)akaAR

Hmm... How do I find time? I work for the government But really, if my computer at work weren't fast enough that I can do one thing, pop over here, do another, pop over here... And when I've actually got work to do, I do it...
I've always had an annoyingly good memory(well, not annoying to me), and I've been on h2g2 since July 11 (the day before my wedding anniversary, so I'll always remember)... You can learn a lot in 3 months... It helps that I know so many gurus... (BTW, Dancer is one, so he can help you a lot)
And you still haven't told me which pronoun to use!

Also ran 1 Posted Nov 8, 2001
Fantastic - except that I do not know what pronoun you are asking me about. Is that the one question that you said that you posted in my old accoun? I got such a shock when I went into my old account that I was quite and took shelter in doing mundane household chores very badly. Now I have been gazing at the screen for so long that I am quite I would like to say eyed, but not cross per se!! Must be off to bed. Great to talk to you again. Now I understand how you are on line all day. It's your job. How stupid can one be. Oh dear. Bonne nuit Also ran (i) AKA AR Lucky you with a good memory. I'm fighting to retain mine!!

Dear Paper Lady, I started writing to you last night and then some friends came round so I had to stop. Thanks for the smileys. Did you put me onto the topic of wheelchairs? that was very kind of you. I seem to take so long doing anything that I have to discipline myself not to sit at the computer all the time which is what I would really like to do. But now my printer has run out of ink and I want to print the marvellous vegetarian dishes and I must wait for a friend who can come in and replace the ink tape. I managed to do twenty two lengths swimming this week which was great. Incredible that I get into the water, I feel like a swan - probably look like a hippo!! - and then when I get out bang I am again immobile and in pain. Very beastly state of affairs. Fortunately when I am sitting in my wheelchair I am generally comfortable. A friend came round and helped me plant my spring bulbs. I have a patio garden which I love and treasure. Thanks for the I send you back two Happy weekend AR.

Thanks! I've actually been looking forward to today for a few days, as a couple of my friends over there in the UK are going to be calling... I'm 8 hours behind you, so arranging to speak with anyone can be a bit daunting, sometimes... (Especially since I'm the one that has the 'timezone thing' as Light calls it, down the best...)
Sounds like you're doing well... Hope you have a good weekend, as well!

Good heavens Paper lady are you on another continent? I am amazed. Actually I have been continually amazed since coming across this web site. Amazed, comforted, supported and most importantly have had so many laughs it has done me the world of good. For some silly reason I thought that everyone I chatted to was over the Atlantic, on this little island. One lives and learns. Perhaps I shall find that I really am chatting to someone on the moon. I have a daughter who lives in Brisbane Australia, and I have been known to phone her at 4 a.m.(GMT we are 10 hours behind them) only to have a sleepy son-in-law saying to me, "But Maman do you know what time it is?". But at least we (you and I)are in the same hemisphere.(aren't we?) This afternoon driving to the next town where I swim, the trees were absolutely beautiful in their autumn colours and I thought that one really did not need to go anywhere else to see the marvellous shades of Autumn. Well you have a few hours to go before it is your bedtime so I shall say - "Have a great afternoon". 'Bye for now. AR but with a marvellous new name of the Corsican Bandit or . I love them both. They make me feel years younger.!! a big

Hi Amy - just a quick note because I forgot to say that I hope you had a super time with your friends. I have a good weekend ahead because my eldest son is coming out from London to see my second son and myself - which is always a pleasure. Happy thanksgiving - or am I abysmally late for it. I must also send good wishes to my brother who lives in New York. Hope to hear from you soon. AR 1

I meant to answer the last one, honest I did...
Anyway, yes, Amy the Ant (you may have seen her on the pirate ship whose name escapes me at the moment ) and I had a nice chat, and 2legs and I talked for an hour... I'm in California, so yes, we're in the same hemisphere Thanksgiving was yesterday, so you're not very late
I've taken to assuming that any new people I meet here are either 1) in the UK, 2) a university student, or 3) a university student in the UK (and this is the assumption I make the most, actually...) I mean, just look at the spaces of the people I have on my lists... (You can skip Anomaly, as he's only on because he showed up in my fan club, but we haven't spoken much--Mycroft too, for that matter, though he fits the pattern...) *considers telling Also ran where Dancer's from--He's in Israel*
Anyway, it sounds like you're having a great time here on h2g2...
Talk to you later!

Hi Amy, I have just found, thanks to you, the first run name that I had. And of course your questions. and the one that I did not answer. I am, how could anyone doubt it, a woman. A least I have been for the last 70 odd years and I have five children to prove it and a great many grandchildren. Unfortunately not yet a great grandmother, but if they do not hurry up I shall not have that pleasure. I might add that I have never wanted to be anything else even when the going was very rough in the last century and we women who wanted to continue our careers and have children had a very tough time. But I was never a bra-burning bimbo - I felt and still feel, that both genders have so many attributes that there is no need to want to be like a man because we have so many things going for us. As they do!!. I went to beautiful California with my late husband and spent a week in San Francisco and also visited Yosemite which we loved. We saw our first raccoon there one winter's night. And of course the Falls were iced over. How can anyone climb that rocky face? Only happy memories of San Francisco and that marvellous harbour and wonderful trolley trams. I have SO many happy memories that there is no time to be miserable because I'm not exactly the most mobile person under the sun. Did you have a good Thanksgiving. I still have not written to my brother. Must do so immediately. Happy greetings, Tomorrow my eldest son and his wife are coming to visit my second son and myself and we shall have a glass of to celebrate Thanksgiving. AR1

Have you written your brother yet?
Do you know yet if you're going to be going to the London meet in January? I hope so--I'd love to see a photo... And, if you are, maybe I can ask a favor? I don't know how much exploring you've been doing of h2g2, or if you've even found the Post yet (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/thepost). If you have seen the Post, you may have seen the report on the Glasgow meet, SMEG, and perhaps also the photos. As the photos show, I sent my self portrait, and some people had a bit too much fun with it (although vogonpoet did keep 'me' out of the gent's this time, which is all I had asked for...) I don't suppose you'd be willing to guard 'me' at the meet? I know you wouldn't be able to stay the whole time, but 'I' would be certain to be safe with you while you're there... I doubt any of this bunch, as they are, would take 'me' from a Corsican ! Anyway, I hope you're feeling well. I've got to get back to w**k...

Hi Paper lady, As usual thank you for giving me so much help. I found the Post section, and I have also seen the super interview which you gave. Very interesting. It would be great to be in contact. I see that there is a way to get my email address to you which I shall do when I find out how to do it. At the moment I am having a bit of a hard time because something I said (I think) is being moderated and I feel like a naughty schoolgirl who is being punished. I wish they would tell me what I had done wrong - if, in fact I have done something wrong!!I have gone back to my original site and have found a whole lot of things in it which I am sure I never ever looked at. And I cannot find the names of any of the people who welcomed me so that I can ask them what to do. Very frustrating. Went Christmas shopping today and the first town I went to which has special facilities for wheelchair users in a big shopping complex had the parking lot absolutely full. So I had to change plans and go to another town where I was very lucky and my carer and I found a parking place, and I went in and did nearly all my shopping. Very satisfying. What are you doing for Christmas? It is sad to have all my children all over the world. Still they came over for my 70th birthday and it was wonderful to have all of them together again. Take care of yourself and several from your old friend the Corsican ess Incidentally you are incredibly lucky to have a wonderful memory. I'm busy taking folic acid to improve mine or rather to keep mine!!

Plans? For Christmas? Don't have any yet... And let's not discuss shopping...*rolls eyes* I'd better hurry up and do my cards, though, as this year I'm sending some overseas... (Yes, to people I met here)
I normally send people on a treasure hunt to find my email address, but I'll be nice this time It's [email protected]

Hi Paper Lady, Great to hear from you. Yesterday I got the surprise of my life when a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of our local Church arrived with an electric scooter After he had assembled it I ventured gingerly onto it and hey presto! Before I knew where I was I was zapping past the town houses in my road with my friend dashing anxiously alongside me. I think I shall probably take up their kind offer of the loan of it because it will mean that I can go to daily Mass - at least when the weather warms up. So it was a great day. I hope you have a super weekend and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Incidentally yesterday I also had a letter from the hospital where I am having my cataract operation. They have put the date forward to the 21st January 2002. I think you would be wise to set up alternative plans for the protection of the Laminated you just in case I am not well enough to take part in the exhuberant party and be your protector!! I must let them know as well. Go well AR1

So wastebaskets will get crunched even faster, huh? That's great
Yes, I saw on the RSVP thread that you would likely not be going... (I'm watching the thread--don't know why, as I can go to Ekki's list to go 'I really want to meet that person! I wanna go') But, as Peta said, there's alway another meet... (Since I joined this past July, there's been at least four meets in the UK alone...) I've got over a month to find a 'bodyguard' so I'm not too worried...
I'll talk to you later, as I want to get through as much of my backlog as I can before I have to leave for work... I'm just slightly addicted, honest...

Hi there Paper lady, Great to talk to you again. I've had a very busy weekend and from now on things are going to hot up. I have a lot of Christmas mail to get up to date with. My eldest grandaughter whose parents live in Brisbane Australia (where my daughter and her husband live) has just graduated from Uni and is going on a month's tour of New Zealand on the GOGO (get on get off - fantastic name) bus. It sounds so exciting what she is going to do. I do think that that it is wonderful to do all those great things when one is young. Not a peep from our mutual friend the Lurcher. I wonder if he is a happy wanderer, or if he prefers to only write occasionally. I shall contact a few of your fan club and then also I have been reading the Post which you so kindly put me in touch with. In the meantime take care. AR1 the disarmed !!
