T.B.s solution would probably cause more problems than it solved unless your friend would be happy to recieve a pregnant hamster as a present

is there a society for the prevention of cruelty to hapless hamsters? Should I be ringing it, if there is? 
Wonders if the hamster is ever let out and allowed to play in an exercise ball???

Yes of course he's let out in a ball! I let him out for almost an hour and a half, before he... erm... did a number two in it...
