smiley - smiley Hi!
OK -- first, to put pictures on your Space , move it around, justify it (as in Right, Left, or Centered), and mess with the font, you will need to have your Space written in GuideML, rather than Plain Text. GuideML is basically the Guide's equivalent of HTML, meaning you have to enter the proper codes for things, like the following: Welcome to My Space!

Those codes, were they put into a GuideML document (rather than in a conversation), would have put the phrase "welcome to My Space" into bold italics, and centered the phrase on the page. I hope that sort of makes sense.
This link http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A442072 should take you to a Help page titled "GuideML Syntax", which contains some basic instructions for starting to work with GuideML -- it's the page I used when I was first learning. It will take some time to get the hang of it, but once you've got it, it's really quite simple.
Click on that link and read through the help page -- I'd suggest printing it out if you can, and then start messing with it. Go to "edit Personal Space" or the equivalent button on your Personal Space, and you'll see an option at the bottom of the screen that says something like Format: GuideML Plain Text, with a selector button. After you edit the text and put your codes in, click 'GuideML'. The program will then go through your entry before it is published to your Personal Space and check for ML errors. If there are any it will tell you what the errors are and you can fix them and then repeat the process. If there aren't any, it'll go through and be published to your Space.
The pictures, after you have switched to GuideML format on your Space, can be found by using the Search box at the top of your Personal Space and typing in "picture galleries". Hit Search, and you will see a list of various picture galleries. Go into one of those, and you will see pictures with a text box full of GuideML code next to or below the picture. Copy that code, go back to your Space, and paste it into your Space (you have to edit your Space, then paste the code into the text box wherever you want the picture to be).

smiley - erm All of that may have been way more complex than it needed to be, but, if nothing else, at least follow the link I gave you and that'll get you started... Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions! My expertise is limited, but it's yours for the asking!

OK -- there's a very nice picture of a red dragon, as well as other mythological creatures, at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A426593
All you need to do is go there, find the picture you want (there's several), and copy the code in the text box that's next to the picture. Then, go back to your Personal Space, click "edit page" and paste the picture code into your Personal Space code wherever you want the picture to show up... you can always "preview" to see what it'll actually look like, and then move it around or orient it differently or whatever you want to do with it.

As for the smileys (aka emoticons) that you asked about, they are very simple of course, although putting them into GuideML documents is trickier than putting them into plain text documents. For info on how to put the emoticons into a GuideML document, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A155909
This page is a help page that will tell you all the codes for smileys, as well as how to put them into GuideML and plain text documents.

OK? Have fun!! smiley - oksmiley - smiley
