The Geatest Country in the World?

What does "geatest" mean, please?
If the USA is, as you claim, "the geatest country in the world", how come a part of it (coincidentally, the part with you in it...), "is the worst place in the universe"?
Just curious...

This is caused by a typical malfunction of brainwashing which allows two contradictory ideas to exist at the same time...a form of reality control which no christian can be without (God loves me.... I am evil and corrupt from the moment I am born... Life is sacred... Burn the heretic... and so forth...)

"greatest"? that's very subjective anyway.... i don't believe that and i also live here... same country, anyway. saying *anything* is the "greatest", "best", "only", etc, is generally wrong. almost always. this also applies to most any statement using "always" or "never" or "all" or "any" or "anything" or "nothing", too. and yes i am aware of the irony of having used that in previous setence. notice i said "most any" as there are usually exceptions. a closed mind is a sad sad thing.
(and, btw, if you *act* like a child, you *will* be treated like one.)

i had a point in there somewhere, i just know it.

I think you missed the point, Wayfarer.
"greatest" is, I agree, very subjective.
But who's to say that the USA isn't the "geatest" country in the world. After all, I don't even know what "geatest" means...

Acting like a child. (you wouldn't have liked me when I was a child...)

i was just going off on a somewhat related tangent.(see title)
and yes, when he just says "greatest", he could mean, militarily, economically, best government(*insert sarcastic comment here*), morraly, whatever. or, in another sense of the word, just the biggest. (i'm not sure about that one, Russia or China could be larger, i'd consult a map but i'd have to find one that doesn't distort distances.)

That would be a Peter's projection map, Wayfarer, as opposed to Mercator's.
That wasn't meant sarcastically, incidentally - I was trying to be helpful. You know, the Brownie Good Turn and all that.

The United States has the best system of government and the greatest oppotunities. Oklahoma is a lousy place to live for every reason except that it is in the US

George W. Bush is going to go down in the annals of the presidents right beside Franklin Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln as men who boldly led us in the face of our greatest trials.

well, i wasn't going to say it, but *that* comment warrents it....

What could you possibly not like about Bush?

if he's not actually an idiot, it seems he works very hard to create that impression, which i find horribly manipulative. either one is not something that's about to endear me to anyone. the best thing he ould do is listen to his advisors, follow the speechwriter's script, and stay out of the way.

and also not make up words. it's ute in a five-year-old, not so much in a-- how old is he?-- an adult, anyway.

Make up words? I must have missed the news that day.
And why should he stay out of the way? Isn't it his job to lead the country?

(not one inident, many. although it's possible it's just a sort of 'urban legend' as i haven't actually witnessed this,(but that could also be because i don't really follow the news), apparently he does it frequently. you can even get books full of these quotes. not just the 'special words' but also generally stupid things. can't recall any atm tho.)
hah. i'm not following. when the blind lead the blind...

Actually, now that I think about it, I do remember watching one speech where he said something stupid, but you have to cut the guy some slack. He's got a lot of stress, and he's from Texas

stress? so would have been *every other person to ever hold the position*, and most of them managed to avoid saying anything *really* stupid. barring Bush Senior's intentional "i'm on a lot of different drugs" speech.

Yeah, you should never misunderestimate a Bush, give him one chance and BAM! lasers in space, oilfields in Alaska, tax cuts for the rich and $128billion budget surplus up in smoke.
The man is a fool. He is in the pocket of big business. There is a huge backlash building up against him, I can't wait for the mid-terms. If it wasn't for Colin Powell, he'd be floundering abroad as he is at home.
Damn, I wish I could vote here.

My personal favourite thing I actually heard Dubya say was shortly after September 11th. He warned the terrorists not to "misunderestimate" him. He went on to warn them not to misunderestimate America, or America's resolve.
Now I know what he MEANT - and it's admirable. But what he SAID had me laughing out loud.
The main good thing he's done is get out of the way. He's a president in the Beeblebrox mode - enjoying the trappings of power without actually wielding any. The actual power seems to be in the hands of people like Powell and Cheney, and a good thing too, because when I look at Bush, and particularly when I listen to him, I just think "how on EARTH did this guy ever win the election." And then I remember - he didn't.
Best system of government huh? Least worst, maybe...
H.
