Hi and thankyou very much for the warm welcome, I have yet to make a real contribution (as in an edited one) but in the fullness of what is left of time I will, I just have a couple of questions. What is the rule (i did read it but it doesn't quite make sense) if I wish to put my website of my band on my page? And also How do I get a dragon????????????????

you can find loads of pictures if your programming in Guide ML at - http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/C809 including dragons like the one on my page - http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U174936.
As for the rule I'll just go and check that now

I believe this is what you're after.
The rule about URL links:
------
Do not include any URLs in Conversation Postings or Nicknames, and only include suitable URLs in Guide Entries. We do not allow URLs to external websites to be included in Conversation Postings or Nicknames, but we do allow them in Guide Entries, so if you want to link (say) to your own personal website, please do so from your own Guide Entries, and preferably your Personal Space.
------
Although this might sound bizarre, it is for a very good reason. BBC policy is that all links on all sites are checked on a regular basis, to ensure that the BBC never links to sites which might offend its users. On h2g2, reviewing all the links is a considerable task, so to make sure the job of revisiting links does not get out of hand, we are doing a trial which involves restricting URLs to Guide Entries only. Depending on how the trial goes, this policy may be revised, but in the meantime, we will remove all URLs from Conversations and Nicknames, except for those to bbc.co.uk sites (including h2g2).
In the meantime, you might like to consider setting up a Guide Entry for you to put links on, and you can then put a link in the Conversations or your Nickname to that entry (as it is fine to include links to Guide Entries in Conversations and Nicknames).
Any links from Guide Entries to websites we consider unsuitable will be removed - if you are considering adding a URL to an entry, please make sure that it adds value and interest to the subject of your entry, and isn't, for example, purely commercial. Unsuitable sites would include those with racist material, pornographic or sexually explicit material, anything which encourages illegal activities, material which infringes copyright, sites which purely plug or promote commercial products or services without containing material which enhances the subject matter, or sites which may offend our users.
In other words, yes you can put up a link to your band's website on your page... Welcome to the guide by the way!

to quote the text: "When you contribute to h2g2 you grant us (among other things) a non-exclusive right to publish your work in any media; see the Terms and Conditions for the full terms of our rights. As we may wish to distribute the Guide in various formats in the coming years, we need to be sure that we have the right to publish everything that's on h2g2." so basically you keep the copyrights to everything you put on site but give the BBC a *license* to exercise copyright over your material - in other words the BBC can edit, publish and sub-license your material (plus other things). As I understand putting a link on you page is fine but by butting things like song lyrics on may be a bit of a bad idea (if this makes any sense you're better than me)

So what you're saying is that if I put the link on I give copyright permission to publish that link, but not permission to publish what is on the linked website (things such as MP3's and lyrics) otherwise it may not be wise to ad the link to My Space. (I don't think this one exists either it should be a smiley tearing his hair (do smileys have hair?) out in confusion/frustration. But I think I may have interpreted it correctly. Thanks, you're Ace.
