Extraordinary Dream: Dancer, Polar Bears, and Glass Statue
Ellen Started conversation Nov 13, 2008
I had a rather extraordinary dream.
I dreamed I was a moderately famous dancer, but had an injured ankle. A reporter/photographer from a news magazine wanted to interview me and get a picture of me dancing. (In real life I am not a dancer, but I do have an ankle injury from a year ago) The photographer took some pictures of me, but I couldn't dance particularly well because of my ankle. We happened to be near a store, and I saw a huge display of toy polar bears that were very cute. I thought that would make a fantastic backdrop to a picture of me. The photographer argued it would not make a good picture. I asked if I could just snap a picture of the polar bears with his camera for myself. An old friend of mine I'll call DL was with me. (In real life she and I are not very close anymore) Anyway, when I looked through the viewfinder to take the picture, DL reached over and shook the camera. I was not pleased, and told her I wanted just that one shot. Then I thought, being a dancer, it would be hilarious to have a photo of just my feet in front of all these polar bears. In the dream, I had on mismatched socks, which I in fact am wearing in waking life. I tried to take the photo again, lying on my back with my feet in the picture, and DL reached over and shook the camera again. Then she grabbed the camera from me, and I was trying to get it back. Meanwhile, the reporter/photographer was removing all the polar bear toys. When I looked back they were gone, and it was too late to take the picture. The reporter shrugged and said he'd gotten the photos he needed.
I was really angry, and yelled at both of them to get out of my house. I slammed the door behind them, but the door was really flimsy, and I could hear them talking about me on the other side.
Then I met an older man who was an artist and all around inventor. I told him my tale of woe. He noticed that when I stood in a certain spot, I looked like a glass statue. He suggested that we build a larger than life statue of me out of glass. We would unveil it publicly, before the photographer could release his story, and no one would care about his article. They would all be too impressed by the glass statue. We even recorded sound effects to play near the statue, alto whistlers, and the sound of dancing feet. Word finally got back to the reporter that we were doing this huge project to spite him, but I never learned his reaction, because at that point I woke up.

That's a pretty interesting one.
I usually have weird dreams. Sometimes, when I've been really busy, I'll dream that I'm doing work. Imagine my dismay upon waking to find that the work is in fact not done.
Kind of cool to dream about someone making a larger than life statue of you, though! But- how could you go out in mismatched socks?

I have weird dreams every night. I was thinking about keeping a diary. There's got to be a film in there somewhere. Or at least a really dodgy Magritte rip-off.

Interesting dream JEllen.
I often have dreams where I'm trying to take a picture of an extraordinary scene, but I ether can't find the camera, or it won't work, or I can't get the setting right. I haven't had anyone dissrupt the photo, yet. . . It's bound to happen now
