I have ordered several tubes of alkyd paint. It's a type of oil that dries much faster than regular oils. It allows you to work much faster. Regular oils can take up to two or three weeks to dry; alkyds only take a day. Yet alkyds blend smoothly, just like oils, and the color is very rich. (I've tried acrylics before, but they dry too fast!) Now I can build up glazes or impasto in just a week. Very excited about this. I'm still working on the large abstract painting for my sister, and have started a small still life of a vase and paperweight. When I get some more money, I may buy a portable easel, so that I can go painting outside!

They sound interesting - the time factor is one reason I've stayed away from oils up to now.
