Neighboring Burglaries

I'd definitely agree with putting your precious painting into protective custody.

The security thing horrifies me; the comparison with my situation here is bizarre. I live alone, in a little house. I rarely lock the door, the damn net curtains got pulled off by Yoda & i'm fed up fixing them, so now have 3 large floor length windows open to the street, doesn't bother me at all. I shut the shutters at night 'cos it's warmer in Winter, in Summer i would happily leave them open. I'm not doing anything illegal or obscene inside MY little house,*i reserve the right to do naughty stuff upstairs*smiley - evilgrin so why should i worry if some passer-by wants to peek in?

Having said that, it bothers viking in the extreme, he is forever nagging me about security. But i reckon he is overly paranoid.

I suppose it's all down to small town mentality stuff; neighbours & all that. Strange noises get investigated, curtains twitch, but it doesn't get too much. The folks round here know me & viking regularly scream blue murder at each other, they also know that no way is this indicating actual murder is happening...but i bet they keep a sharp eye out just in case!

I've been burgled a couple of times in the past, just small stuff; but it was a pain. I'm lucky living in a place where, in general, until proved otherwise, seems pretty safe. I never worry about going out alone at night & all that stuff, but i certainly did when living in a big city in UK. No problems in Africa, i don't even think we had a door key, but did have two huge dogs & in theory paid a night watchman to fall asleep in comfort. Pakistan could have been dodgy i am told in retrospect, but again, we had dogs (dim, soppy ones!)& very little worth nicking, i reckon word spread it wasn't worth the bother!

I suppose the best you can do in your situation JEllen is to fit the best security system possible & once it's in place, use it as a matter of habit, then simply forget about it. "OK, smiley - musicalnote close the door, light the lights, we're staying home tonight"smiley - musicalnote

Yoda of course is a major deterrent. The sight of her sitting guarding her Personal Space in the window is probably enough to put mostsmiley - thiefoff!

*Afterthought*

If there's any justice in the world, next weekend a smiley - thief decides now is the time to pay me a visit. Imagine his horror when 9 viking types plus me & yoda descend upon him?

Ooooh! Dreadlocks!!!And sirens! Mermaids with dreads would be a great combination, with the Belgian 6 packs bringing up the rear, maybe a Sumo wrestler or two in reserve....

As for the flashing, well yes. Hire your local grubby mac man to stand in the window showing off & i doubt anybody would break in.smiley - snork

Willem

Hello Everybody! I'm sorry to hear about those burglaries JEllen!

Here in South Africa there's quite a lot of crime. Our house here has steel security gates front and back, and is patrolled for a few hours each day by a couple of cats.

Sorry to hear about the thefts in your apart complex. I think an inexpensive alarm and dummy alarms..are all good.

As for your painting, it is a piece of you - they are always hard to give up...make a copy for yourself and put it in your computer...then give it or perminant loan to your neice...it's a great feeling when someone else gets so much pleasure out of your work..best feeling ever! smiley - ok

Hmm; a brace of hungry lions in the back yard tends to work nicely Willem!smiley - ok

I've always thought a highly effective personal protection system would be a well-trained vampire batsmiley - vampiresmiley - bat

If anybody so much as looks at you in the wrong tone of voice, you simply issue the quietly menacing command:

"Boris: go SUCK!"
