Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Sho - employed again! Posted Nov 20, 2001
Hi Shee... Happy Birthday for whenever your birthday was... I wouldn't like you to feel left out!
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Ellen Posted Nov 21, 2001
Let's see, what did I get? I got an Onion parody book from my neice and nephew, two Monsters Inc. stuffed animals with candy inside from my sister, and a Marvin the Martin Looney Tunes mug from my brother. Oh yes, and I got some movie coupons from my sister too. Some of my siblings took me out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant. We had fajitas - yummy. I got some money from my Mom and Dad, and I bought a couple videos - The Imposters, a very funny movie, and The Beach, because I am a Leo fan. So a good time was had by all.
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Sho - employed again! Posted Nov 21, 2001
Ohhh lots of pressies!! And the Beach, be sure to get right on over to the Drool Thread and tell us all about the chests while they're fresh in your mind!
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Ellen Posted Nov 22, 2001
I'm still kind of shy about outright drooling, although I do, I really do.
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Sho - employed again! Posted Nov 22, 2001
I have to admit that openly drooling is an acquired taste... but we don't bite!!! You're doing OK so far anyway
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Ellen Posted Nov 24, 2001
So, Shee, how was your birthday? And your Thankgiving?
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
the Shee Posted Nov 24, 2001
Really really good! I got nice stuff for my birthday, and turkey for Thanksgiving! --What more can anyone ask for?
I saw the Harry Potter movie today! Yippee!!! (That was a birthday present --feeding to the addiction...) It was okay--they sure left a lot out, and I didn't like some of the castings... Eh. And I finished our Fawlty Towers DVDs--it's been a good movie day!
Did you eat too much turkey too?
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
Ellen Posted Nov 24, 2001
We fried the turkey this year instead of baking it, and it kept it nice and juicy. Frying is the way to go. We had my Mom's wonderful cornbread dressing too, and sweetpotatoes. I pigged out for sure. In fact, I pigged out tonight too, cause we had shrimp. Been eatin' high on the hog all this week.
I haven't read the Harry Potter books, so I didn't miss the stuff that was cut out. I thought the little boy that was Harry was just precious, and I liked all the owls. Alan Rickman was cool as Snape, he's such a good actor. I love him in Truly, Madly, Deeply. I wish he would do more romantic leads like that.
Have you seen the preview to Gangs of New York? It's on the Unofficial Leo website. I just love it. Unfortunately it's been postponed from December till next Spring. Don't know how I'm going to wait that long. Woohoo!
Shee... Happy Birthday!!!
the Shee Posted Nov 25, 2001
I like Snape too...
I really don't watch that much TV, so seeing previews isn't exactly my thing... It'll have to be good, with Leo in it, eh? (I *knew* I should have gotten you *him*... )
I absolutely love turkey!!!! We had leftovers tonight.... The gravy was even real! (Sometimes we get fake gravy--Oscar Meyer when the food doesn't make good gravy... ) And cranberries... And pie... And mashed potatoes... *licks lips*

I saw a delightful french movie this afternoon. It's called Amelie. The young star, I don't know her name, was wonderful. Critics are comparing her to Audrey Hepburn. It's a romantic comedy. She goes around doing good deeds for people. It was really funny and fun, very fast paced.
Glad you enjoyed your turkey.

Hey, I never saw Run Lola Run.
I'm very preoccupied right now with my friend who is depressed. She's had to move back to Memphis and in with her mom, which is not the best solution, but seemingly the only one at the moment.

the Shee Posted Nov 28, 2001
I'm not sure what to tell you... Depression is *really* the pits. Try to be positive. Depending on how depressed she is (and how far you think she could go), try to keep someone with her as much as possible. Everyone matters a whole lot through the people they touch and help--remind her that she is worthwhile and people care about her. People she's never met--I care now, and I don't know her but through you! Smile at her, let her know you're there, but don't pry.... Everything is up to her. Just try to be there. If it is at all possible for her to get professional help (assuming she wants it), go for it.
This is all coming from my experiences with seriously (very seriously) depressed friends--I'm not sure how much might be a good idea, or how much a bad idea....
I'm here for you, Ellen, too--you need to stay in good health throughout this, don't let her depression get to you. That is one of the *worst* things that can happen, and I'm sure your friend will agree--but don't let her push you away, using that as an excuse. She needs you.

One more question: are you Christian? Rather, do you mind Christianity?--How would you feel about posting to the Prayer Room, at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A574913 , or letting me post there about this?

prayer post
Ellen Posted Nov 29, 2001
Actually, I consider myself a Deist, in that I believe in God, but I don't really follow any particular creed. And on bad days I lean toward agnosticism a bit. I happen to think that reincarnation is a real possibility, but I respect the major world religions. I'm a bit like the ancient Egyptians, who thought that when a person died, their heart would be weighed against a feather. I like people with good hearts. I think the prayer post is a good idea, it certainly wouldn't hurt.
I think Sho is going to leapfrog over to this thread; she thinks it will save me some typing, and keep me from repeating the same things over again.

I don't mind if Sho comes over, not at all!
I'm actually having problems right now with Christianity ... Finding myself very attracted to Buddhism, starting last year with some investigation, and now with exposure to all this Beat writing, I'm looking closer at it. I like what I see, but reincarnation is that hanging point for me--I would hate to just be born over and over, live again and again... And if my mind doesn't accept it, it's hard for me to believe.... I don't want to just believe dogma because it is dogma... ....
I like the God of Christianity, however (that's the way I was raised), and when I saw the Prayer Room, I thought it was a great idea.... But I didn't want to post there without your knowledge or approval, so that's why I brought it up....
George Harrison :-(
Sho - employed again! Posted Nov 30, 2001
Hey, here I am (finally) been really busy.
I was impressed that you asked about the praying, because I know plenty of people who would just do it, it's somehow patronising that way I think. Although, generally people who pray do it for the right reason, so I suppose I shouldn't be offended.
I'm a nothing really, although I tend towards deism or some sort of paganism. I find it very hard to believe in an afterlife, but I'm open to learn about all these things.
Actually, being a big fan of George Harrison made me examine the Eastern spiritualities, and the whole way of life makes a lot of sense. But I'm still finding it hard to "believe" anything.
Ho hum.
So, I'm playing all my records, CDs, tapes etc, and being really sad now.... Sorry, I don't have anything constructive to say right now!

God... George...
There really isn't a smiley to express what I'm feeling... is too "look at me, I'm doing this to get attention!" and is an understatement... What I am is ....
George Harrison :-(
Ellen Posted Dec 1, 2001
I just found out that George died a few minutes ago when I saw an article on the Net. Shee, Sho, I knew you guys would be upset, being Beatles fans like myself. He touched so many people's lives didn't he? George was so clever and so talented. I feel sorry for his wife and son, and Paul and Ringo. Paul seems to be taking it hard. He said George was like his baby brother. I've known for a while that George was ill, so it wasn't as terrible a shock as it could have been. I just know that an awful lot of people including me will be mourning his passing.
By the by, I'm going to invite WINK to join our thread. She's a Beatles fan too, and her birthday was also in November. She's an artist, and she lives in TN, like me. Hope that's ok.
