Well well well, dear Stu...
It is only easy to find nice people to talk too here on h2g2.
It is easy for meny reasons, but I'll let you find out yourself.
About what to write. Well, don't write anything unless you feel you want/need to.
Soon enough you won't have enough time to write all you want to though. I know I have much more I want to write then I have the time for.
For interesting people just click "who's online" and go to researcher's pages. there are all sort of links and interesting stuff there, and if you find someone interesting, you can just write to them. I do that alot.
You can also click people's names off conversations you have (click mine to get to my personal space, there's a description of some of my favorite researchers there, and all sort of links related to them and to h2g2.
Itis a BIG place, it takes time to find your way around. Hope you get sucked in as I did, and to see you around alot.
Do you want me as your guardian angl ?

*waves at Dancer*
Things you or others have posted previously - that's back log - at some threads it's a virtual night mare!
stu - regarding me going to bed right now - the researchers at h2g2 are from all over the world, in different time zones - when someone is going to bed, someone else might just be having breakfast... so if you feel like continuing to party - feel free!
I myself am in time zone CET (Central European Time)
Good night! ~waves~

Well, all you need is the concept, and you seem to already have started there.
Forst you should see what already is there about books and literature. There's actually quite a lot of it. And a lot of the stuff is cross linked, so if you start in one place, and follow links you'll also probably visit the others.
Best place to start I guess it the Library and museum at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A413290
Another grat place is H2G2 Literary sosciety:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U127122
The H2G2 fiction central:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A294833
The musehome's library:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A427349
Also, some edited guide entries related:
Books edited entry:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A193998
Under Life/The Arts/Literature & Authors
there's a list of Literature related edited entries:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/C812
I started with the programmers' corner the same way, I just wanted it to be on h2g2, so I made it up.
And Dragonfly did the musehome, which is really huge by now (I think it is one of the largest sub-community here).
So what do you plan on your book community? I understand you andt book reviews and stuff, I'll give you the link to the book review I'm doing for the AS as soon as I do it (the AS is the astrological sosciety, anouthe sub-community here on h2g2, there are a lot of them, like Guardian Angles )

Well, there's a lot of rubbish sci-fi, but also a lot of great science fiction, and fantsy books. I like hardcore sciance fiction, I'm reading "The Gods Themselves" by Issac Asimov at the moment and it is brelliant!
