Hi, we are all fine. Texas is (thank Good) a long ways from New York. Even then people are in shock over what has happened. The air base here is on full alert and moving troops in. At this time we just don't know what is going to happen. The scavengers have move in raising fuel prices and anything having to do with oil by-products. You would think people would think more about helping one another than see it as a way to make a quick profit.All I can say about them is I hope they like hot places for they are surily going to h**l. I am sorry that I sound so down. Though I am fortunate enough to not had lost anyone .I can not help thinking of all those who lost everthing and I pray for them .
Even though we have known each other for a short while I really appreciate your cocern about my family and myself.

Hi, I would like to think you both for your friendship and conversations. I feel that you will alway be in my heart. I regret that I feel it is necessary for me to leave H2G2 as I can not and will not be any part of a group that condones hate in any form. If you have read some of the entries, by what I feel to be a minorty of the members,You will see my point. I will miss you both greatly.

Stay. I can't remember who said 'for evil ro triumph it is enough for good men to do nothing.' but he had a good point. Be a good man /woman. I you leave there will be one less, and the stupid minority will have a larger voice, and could end up in the majority. I haven't seen the postings you refer to, but I did some some pretty uninformed opinions, by anonymous researches (in my opinion, people were logging off, choosing a new account and hiding behind anonimity to voice their stupid opinions). I posted a couple, but I hope you didn't find them offensive. I don't condone violence and hate, I merely pointed out that America has had quite an interventionist foriegn policy, and it was bound to happen sooner or later. Here in England we had a bomb go off a few years ago which caused havoc in our financial sector (meaningless blips on computers compared with human lives) and in Ireland we had the Omagh bomb which killed a couple of hundred innocents. If there is one good thing that comes out of tuesday it might be that America and the rest of NATO take on a more responsible attitude to 'collateral' damage. One of the postings in that forum was from a resident of Belgrade who -without hate - pointed out that they had had to put up with worse every night of that war. My sympathies go out to whoever is suffering from that atrocious attack on Tuesday - but please can people take this as an opportunity to admit to some personal responsibility for their countries actions. Again, please stay - their is no point in having a sensible opinion if it is not heard.

Damn, don't go Watcher. Big site, lots of people, too many different and occassionally wildly, uh, blunt views. Tis, after all, a small microicosm of the world's cross section, and like Frogbit says, you may be tipping the balance in favour of rationalism. Trick is, too, to hang out with people you like.

If it helps I got an e-mail from one of my twelve year old students today saying, in effect "I don't love america, but you can't gloat at a time like this. All I want to do is cry." Trouble is, cos we are far away and are not so... personally touched, it is easy to start (over) rationalising quickly. Maybe these people are thinking coldly about something which others are not, though I admit I have'nt been online the last few days and so haven't rwead anything. I know its not a subject I'd wisely debate and I'd end up offending someone needlessly and unintentionally.

Watcher just needs some time. He's sad that the U.S. is being blamed for all the world's pain. Yup, our foreign policy is interventionist, but you have to remember that immigrants help draft the laws here and foreign nationalists lobby our congress, all of which help form those policies. The common man is stuck with them. All we can do is write our congressmen and vote them out when we can.
In Ireland, people have died. I'm sorry. Does that make our sadness any less real? What goes around, comes around is such a cold way to comfort the dying.
BTW, americans die every day, all around the globe. We would love to stay home, but others call us into their countries, then kill us. Now they have come here. well, it ain't the first time, and it won't be the last time.
Still we go, in the form of red cross workers and servicemen,UNICEF volunteers, tourists and busnessmen; still we open our doors to immigrants and refugees. Still those not born on U.S. soil serve in our government and write our laws.
What makes the world think that U.S. citizens want to hurt people? People want to hurt People; race and country notwithstanding. In Ireland there is a civil war. Will it stop if we withdraw our intervention?
Lord, I wish we could. I have enough sadness in my own life without adding to someone else's. But as long as the common man cannot ignore the needs of the immigrant, we will be pulled into the affairs of others.The immigrant has as much right to be heard as those born on U.S. soil.He is a citizen too, and his voice will continue to shape our foreign policy. We can only continue to preach tolerance to our children and to vote against those whose interventionist policies cause so much pain.

Give watcher a little time. He may be back. But to lay all of the evils at the feet of one nation is too easy. Some of it comes to us from outside our borders.

your last posting echoes what watcher said to me just yeaterday. thankyou for understanding. He says that he will probably be back, but not under the same name. he says he will be more vocal, so watcher wouldn't be appropriate.
he needs some time to think. as for myself, I have always called our public officials to task, in letters and in protests, when I could; but mostly in the way I vote and in financial support for the policy makers who show compassion and understanding.

My friends, in the words of the terminator,"I will be back". I won't be back as the watcher, but under a new name. My views are still the same, I will not tolerate hate or stupidity. So look for me and I will find you. Thankyou, you made me THINK!!
