Be careful what you wish for - you might get it!
Volunteer for something! Be a part-time volunteer coast guard or something. I have a friend who had to talk down a woman who was going to throw herself off a cliff on Christmas day last year. He's a volunteer coastguard. He called the proper coastguard who then called the 'negotiator' who was too piddled to turn up and they told my friend to carry on as he was doing a great job.
In the end the woman changed her mind and it all ended well. My friend got two awards - one from the Coast Guard and one from the Police.
The puzzling thing was we can't work out how he was sober himself on Christmas day!
