Are we going to have the pleasure of your company at the summer party this year? I haven't been watching the sign up process, so I thought I'd come round and annoy people in person.

'Fraid not, Mina. London's a bit far from Edinburgh, and there's no universities [that I'm interested in] to use as an excuse. I think though that I may try and get along to the next scottish meet, since I think I can probably manage the walk to the city centre 
Have fun at the meet though!

That's a shame. We have got a number of Researchers coming from Scotland, maybe you could hide in the boot.
I keep meaning to fit in a Scottish meet-up, maybe I'll see you there instead.
