Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Had a long talk with Roy last night and he bought the car for me that he would have wanted last night - well, alright, he would *really* have liked the Saab, but his friend told him that the bidding had gone too high for it to be considered a good buy.

I think it's just a matter of waiting now until I get to see it - I'm sure that will make a difference. I'm a little nervous of it being an automatic, however Gnomon's advice is reassuring.

Gnomon - time to move on

I haven't got an automatic, but I've driven them when in the US. It took me about a day to get used to it, then I didn't think about it again.

I'm feeling a bit more positive about it now, Gnomon. I went through a phase of feeling really glum with 'small and old' running through my head like a mantra. It wouldn't go away. It's been interesting to reflect on. I suppose my car must be part of my self-image. I've not yet read the book 'Status Anxiety' by Alan de Botton.

This site has interesting things to say about status anxiety. http://www.anxietyculture.com/anxiety.htm

What were you expecting, a little open-topped red sports car? I would have thought a purple automatic Toyota would make a very nice car. But then, I like cars to be functional, despite my entry on "Advanced Driving Techniques" (A1011853).

I'm sure Zubeneschamali can fill you in on all the details of driving an automatic, as he is really interested in cars. If you feel wary of approaching a complete stranger, tell him I sent you. He knows me.

I've just been sent pictures of my new car. I was told it was a 'V' reg; it's a 'T'. It's a lot darker in colour than I was led to believe - a Toyota Corolls GLS 1600 with all the trimmings - inc air conditioning, ABS, electric doors, windows and sunroof, alloy wheels (including the spare), immobiliser and alarm. It doesn't have a CD player, but it will and I'll be getting a GPS, so I think I'm going to be fairly happy with it. It's apparently spotless inside and low mileage. Not a lot of room in the back, however little smiley - fish is still small and my parents are on the short side, so they should be OK too. Apparently, I'll have to wait for the car to be checked over by someone official (not quite sure who) and it has to be booked in with them - could take about three weeks.

That sounds brilliant, but it is a long time to wait for it, isn't itsmiley - huh Still, when you are carrying precious people like littlesmiley - fish and your parents, it pays to be cautious.

It will be nice to have a car again, Websailorsmiley - dragon - I came home on the bus with three carrier bags full of shopping in hail and sat next to a woman who reeked of stale cigarette smoke. Buses are fine by and large, but it's so much nicer not to have to cart heavy shopping around by hand.

Roy said that the delay is a safety thing and related to re-issuing it with a log book.

I went out to shop today in case tomorrow or Friday are worse! Came back on the smiley - bus with four huge bags of shopping. He had to drop the bus floor for me to get off smiley - rofl but at least it drops me right outside my house. I can scarcely walk with four bags.

We have had snow showers on and off all day, but (selfishly I know) it can do what it likes nowsmiley - roflsmiley - blush as my coal came yesterday and we are stocked up for a siegesmiley - biggrin

I am nearly as excited as you about your new car smiley - somersault

Went to see my new car yesterday - it does look pretty cool - it's not mauve, though - it's a very dark purple - quite nice. Looks a bit like this http://www.allapprovedcars.com/Used-Toyota-Corolla-1.3-SE-Ltd-Edn-Hatchback-5dr-Car-Leicester--crpId500583820-CarDetails.aspx

although it's the wrong colour and mine has fog lamps on the front.

I am not sure whether to call you that or Tony Curtis lookalikesmiley - doh Very confusingsmiley - rofl

That looks a mighty nice car to me, and Royal Purple is a lovely colour. My friend had a purple one until a few months ago but has now changed it to a lime green one!!

Glad you are feeling a bit better about it now.

Oh, I'm still ZSF!, Websailorsmiley - dragon - the Tony Curtis stuff is a protest about having my name moderated.

Lime green! - smiley - yikessmiley - yuk

I'll be happier when I've got the car sorted out - MOT'd, taxed, and insured with the log book in my name.

I've *no idea* why my name was moderated, Websailorsmiley - dragon - not have I ever had any explanation, which is why I'm so miffed. I think it's something to do with the way that iCan is set up differently from us - they have 'real' names there and we have nicknames - it's something to so with single sign on. One of the italics told me that they shouldn't be moderating h2g2 nicknames in the first place - let's face it - we were here long before they were!

I've now got my car sitting outside my house smiley - cool - I can't drive it yet, as it has to go through a vehicle identity check so that I can get a log book for it. I'll go into the post office tomorrow with my bits and pieces and my £35.

TiTsmiley - titWhen I was talking to Roy about cars, I asked him not to get me a black one - I'm happy that you're pleased with yours.

Yes, Websailorsmiley - dragon I need to go into the post office at lunchtime to request an appointment. Apparently we have to drive it there (I won't drive it, but the person who bought it for me will). When I'm legal I'll have to remember not to try to change gears. smiley - weird
