Zarquon's Singing Fish! Posted Feb 1, 2005
I've just received an e-mail saying my nickname contravenes the house rules. I can't for the life of me see why - I've had it since 2001.

Oh, I can see from your new name that you are aware of it.

>>contravenes the house rules
-- it might be a mistake
-- it might be somebody's idea of a joke (the original expletive being offensive to the followers of the Prophet Zarquon) which was not understood by the moderators
I suggest you talk to Natalie about it.

Interesting how I reacted to the e-mail. I felt as though I had been personally attacked, but I didn't know why. It's come from the iCan moderators.

Traveller in Time in another universe
"Can it be the high priests of the cult for 'Zarquon' see it as offensive?
Hmm, if it is an Ican story, did you post on Ican using this account? Then they will have loads of names to yikes . "

I don't really use iCan, TiT and I can easily unsubscribe if it's a problem - however with the so-called integrated community, they should gave generic rules, so what is offensive on one should be offensive to all.

Traveller in Time searching for non 'offensive' nick names
"I should seach for the differences in site rules between Ican and the other sites. I know they require you to give your real name to sign in. When I did it would not accept my <42 !
Did you get any reply? (I never had on any of my yikesed )
They will have a load of work to examinae all accounts possibly visible in Ican.

Traveller in Time waiting for an obvious answer
"How about it, did they reply anything ?
Or do you have to stay 'What's wrong with Zarquon's Singing Fish!?' ?"

Yes. Now at least I know I'm not the only one. I wonder if it's just one iCan Moderator where power has gone to his/her head or if there are several?

Yes, iCan has apologised. They're different to the rest of the DNA sites in that they require people to give their true names - no anonymity. Yet when they moderated my name, they pointed me to the hub's rules which are the ones we abide by and which my nickname doesn't offend.
