I'm sure there will a lot of people who would never have bought a computer who get to use TV internet. Isn't it "free" when you have cable TV? (The one I used was a box connected to regular TV and that was £100 so I'm not sure about cable)

If people have never seen the internet before they are not going to pay out £1000 (even if they could afford it) just so they can try it out are they? Students will learn at school or college but older people may not even know anyone else with a computer.

I think one of TV internets problems is that the people who are using it don't know what the internet should be like , and don't immediately realise that the things that don't work are due to the limitations of the TV set top box. They imagine they are doing something wrong.

yes, Brownfury, your quite right about not reallising what things should have like on "real" computer as webtv was my only experience of computer or web,and I did think it was just me doing it wrong! with my co' "nthell" I have to pay extra to use web, but still very little compared to price of buying pc and call charges for acsess to web. so it was the only option really to enable me to use web. I would be lost now without it gives me so much opitiunity to get information and reach resources I would otherwise find difficult to acsess and E-mail's too which is really handy for me. its well worth the extra.....found your other reply, cant use reply's on that at mo'(strange) I understand what you say, I will have a try when time permits, sounds like it will take quite bit of time!and thats not always possible I get cut off if Im to long on any one page!so have to smiley - run around bit, but thanks for info' jofrog.

I was overjoyed when I got my computer too.

Until the day it broke , because the "helplines" are not too helpful and I don't know any technical stuff to fix it myself .

Jofrog, I tried to look at that other thread in case I messed up the link but it crashed my computer, so I can't read it either.

What Jofrog was referring to was , now she can see the smilies and pictures she wondered how to get the pictures on her page. I said that she needs to use GuideML to get the pictures and it is probably too much effort for her at moment. (No mouse , no copy and paste , would have to type it all one key at a time).

Also it is really difficult to delete the page code (No selecting text and hitting the delete key) if it all goes horribly wrong you have to delete it all one key at a time.

I think she's better off sticking with plain text and smileys while she has to use TV internet.

Yeah, brownfurby, you're right! I remember I was a columnist for the musicians guild smiley - smileyhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/u150368smiley - smiley , I had to give in, in the end (well, there are other reasons but you know..) because to update the page, which was easier to not update all the links etc, it was really hard to clear the entry in time for the new week smiley - erm, IE: A full article would go like this to delete...

Press down repeatedly until you reach the bottom (There was only one functional 'backspace' button - no delete key which would have worked by deleting the character to the RIGHT of the cursor), and then press backspace, wait roughly 5 seconds for the textarea box to update the words and characters in it, then press it again.. Really frustrating. smiley - sadface

BTW, I think its best to keep putting reply links in so that jofrog can reply.. in case the box goes weird again.. Mine did it a lot :-
