Just messing around with Travelocity, as you (well, I, at least) do, checking airfare to the UK (at least to all London airports), and, once you factor in travel costs to *get* to airports (San Francisco, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon being the closest major airports and all 5-6 hours' drive away) it costs the same or less to leave from heresmiley - bigeyes Granted, at nearly $1500 roundtrip for 1 person, I'm not going anywhere this year, but that's just flabbergasting. Normally, it's anywhere between $400-$600 more to fly down to San Francisco (the only destination from our airport) and continue from there.

Well, that's a good thing innit?

When we researched trips to the US (yep, we'll be in CA etc in July/Aug), Los Angeles in general seemed cheaper than San Francisco, even if I had a keen eye for the latter as SAS opens a direct flight there in April.

But eventually, we ended up going London - Los Angeles. (BTW, I like the airport code there: LAX smiley - smiley)

Here's the tool that I predominantly use for pricing out my flights, mainly w**k of course but also when we go on family trips:

- probably too much hoping that it can do some smiley - magic and really find you a very cheap trip smiley - smiley

Since I'd need 2 roundtrip tickets (Tom wants to come, too) travelling that far won't happen this year, anywaysmiley - sigh

I'll wave southwards this summer--LA's far enough (roughly 800 miles?) that I won't even bother bugging you to come visitsmiley - laugh

Oo, that's seriously cool! I didn't even know that there were so many airports in a 300 mile radius from here--and I like the wide date range, too. If we had the money, a couple of weeks from when I was testing is $300 per person less! And still cheapest to leave from just down the roadsmiley - biggrin

smiley - cool

I am a great fan of the time bars they can show for the legs when planning. And the ability (via some of the advanced uses) to picknout e.g. direct only or sort out long overlays.

Would someone make that superfluous 'n' take a long flight to somewhere far away, please?
