Amy Pawloski, aka 'paper lady'--'Mufflewhump'?!? click here to find out... (ACE)

First of all, I knew today would be hard. On 19.4.00 my mother died of brain cancer. So today's date is not a good one for me.

And then, there was yesterday... Which is still bad today.

I wish I could just go home and cry my eyes out. But that means I would have to tell the people here at work what is wrong, and I don't want to do that. So I'll just stay here, holding back tears, and sometimes not succeeding. At least my voice sounds OK on the phone.

And for the third day in a row, h2g2 isn't working well on my work computer...

Amy,

I wish I could make it better.
Maybe a good cry would help; better than holding it in.
Grief is awkward.
My cousin died with a brain tumor when we were both 17, it took me years to be able to think clearly about what happened.
I don't know why that snippet would help you.
I am however trying my best ...

lots of love

Andrew

Thank you, all...

I just wish that my current job didn't keep me so aware of what the current date is all the time--last year was *much* easier...

I will admit--the issue from Thursday did keep me distracted smiley - erm though I kind of would have rather not have been distrated by something like that (no, I'm not going to go into it--it's resolved now, mostly, anywaysmiley - smiley)

Now, if I could just figure out why h2g2's been so slow at w**k... It's been ridiculous--during the foull hour I have for lunch, I've only been able to look at less than 10 threads, using 2 windows... Even less if I actually bother to post to any...

If there are many of you that surf during lunch then this can slow-down a network Internet connection. If(lunch > 1200 && lunch < 1400 && systime == EST) there shouldn't be too much UK traffic on the site.

Many companies use caching on sites to reduce bandwidth ... if you are accessing non-cached sites then the firewall system might want to check everything.

Glad the otherday is resolved (mostly)

Ah, but you see, I've been accessing h2g2 at work since I joined, back in July. It's only since Wednesday that it's been crawling... And every other site I try is still super-speedy (and while there is a firewall, I don't think it caches anything)

No, don't think so...

Though it is odd that my home computer can access h2g2 better than my work one (I'm sure 'Blue Darner' has heard me compare the two, in one of his other IDs, and I think Suz has, too...) (Oh, and Suz--thank you for the almost-offersmiley - smiley I know by now that you don't like the phone, so I do appreciate itsmiley - hugBut you could still give me *your* number--even if I never use it, I'd feel better knowing I *could* in an emergency...)

Okokokok! I will give you my number, but if you do call dont think that my lack of conversational skills is any reflection on you.

I will email you with it later. Ooh, kill two birds with one stone, would you mind if it was in a group email;?

Thank you, dearsmiley - smiley

And ask Ottox--I'm not exactly a sparkling conversationalist myself, and I don't mind silences on the phone. And I tend to prefer to arrange to call, so you'll likely have some warning (unless, like I said, I feel that there is an emergency...)
