Encapsulated Life Pod Number 3- Muse of Gibberish

Why has no one commented so far?
Very good writing. Individually the sentences are remarkable. I like the compact sharp images such as << A hanging fern swung like a railroad signal, ding, ding, back and forth.>>. I thought that session 21 was stronger than section 22, which seemed to need some editing or revision- too much description in the initial paragraphs, even if it is good description. There is little room to judge characters and situation from chapters taken from the middle of a novel like these are- and taking middle chapters also makes them harder to read. Section 21 reminded me of Bukowski- not as imitation, but in terms of how good and compact and bright the writing is. The general situation of the story- from what I can see- has been done a lot already- poverty, drugs, urban decay etc.. This is one drawback. And I got the impression that this was a drama that was unsure of whether it really wanted to be a comedy. But by and large it is all very good writing.

Thank you. I'm sorry I couldn't respond earlier but I have been busy with work. I am trying to cut out some of the excess adjectives in Ancient Sacred and, yes, I was going for a Beat feel in Boxer.
For Ancient Sacred, what parts of the descriptions were cumbersome?
The general situations of the chapters are important to me because they are taken from my life, with several liberties taken. As they say, "the names are the same but the events have been changed to protect us all."
Jack meets Steve at the beginning of the novel as a friend of Noah. Steve is like a mentor to Jack in the way he acts (freedom, rebellion, etc) which appeals to young and impressionable Jack. This continues until Jack realizes what he's getting into and breaks from the other characters to become a unique individual.
Also, the book is neither a drama nor a comedy, but a "glorious new form of reality," as John Glover put it. There are some funny situations, and some sad times, on the whole an account of four months in the life of Plato's wax slate.
