Death of a pet

Very sad week. My daughter's cat was hit by a car. They took it to the Vets but it was too badly injured to survive so I had the unhappy task of picking it up from the surgery and taking it home to the grandchildren. I was able to lay it in a box with the injured side down so he looked quite peaceful. Then we stroked him and talked about all the things he had enjoyed doing and about how much he had been loved and enjoyed his life. They buried him in the evening when Daddy came home.
I feel it is better to discuss death with children and have a ritual burial. Death is part of life. I hope that they have learnt that it is OK to be sad but good to remember all the good things about the cat and to laugh when we remember his antics.

Holidays

Only a few more days to go, then off to Munich to visit my daughter and her family. I have double checked the passports and tickets and now have to go out and buy the marmite and dairy milk chocolate.

The last time we stayed with them was in March when the youngest grandaughter was born. We were there for three weeks in a one bedroomed flat with my daughter, her husband and first one then two children. We never once felt in the way. My son-in-law was always so relaxed about us being there. We have a bit of trouble with language but seemed to comunicate very well. (And we had a lot of laughs when mistakes were made, usually by me.)

They have just moved to a bigger flat so we will have a bit more space this time. We leave on Tuesday. Should be fun. Munich is such a lovely city.

Holidays

Just about to double check my pasport is ready, The travel docs are all there, then Tuesday we are off to Munich to see my daughter and her family. She has a lovely husband and two little girls. In February we stayed three weeks in a one bedroom flat with Her, her husband and first just one daughter then the new one arrived. It could have been uncomfortable but we never felt that we were in the way once. Our son in law made us feel so welcome. Even though we have a bit of trouble on the language front we seem to be able to comunicate very well (and have a lot of laughs when someone, usually me, gets it wrong)

Just getting back to reading. Halfway through Lord Of The Rings but side stepped slightly and read the first Harry Potter. Hitchhikers guide is ready for a rather long wait between planes next week.
