There are a lot of things we don't disagree on. And some which we do. That's people for ya, isn't it? Doesn't have to mean we're enemies.
I haven't entered the FoLKZ group largely because I've chosen to use my time a little differently towards achieving some of the same ends of many of y'all in there. I'll get better results doing it my way than I would through trying to turn myself into an activist when that's not exactly my nature.
I figure that if people can keep their wits about them and avoid flaming rhetoric it makes it much more difficult for others to ignore what they're trying to say.
Kurt Vonnegut wrote something along the lines that once someone starts to curse, or be abusive, it gives those he is adressing every right not to listen to the rest of the message. I believe that. I TRY to remember that, though I'm not always successful. Generally, when I forget, the message doesn't get through.
That happened with my approach to LeKZ, believe it or not. I was trying to show her something that she might be able to use to avoid trouble onsite. I didn't want to see her booted. Wish it wouldn't have come to that. I guess once she got pixxed off, she couldn't see anything I was trying to say in any other way than sniping attacks. I wish that hadn't been the case.
I don't know that I'd have made the same decisions that the PTB made in some instances, but I DO know that I'm not in their shoes. I expect people to make mistakes, and hope that they learn from them. It's been my experience that when you give decent people the chance to grow without tearing into them for past mistakes, they do so more efficiently. Beating on them makes them resist. That's human nature, I guess.
