I'm a teacher. If you've got anything to ask, ask away!

Hi both of you smiley - smiley Thanks for dropping by. Yep, I have some questions...

What do you think would be useful to school kids in an online community - we'd like to give them the chance to post work, and critique eachother. do you think this would work?

Would having a space where you could post class projects be useful to you?

Also, we're actually hoping to build communities for teachers as part of a second phase. What kind of stuff would be good to see? We were thinking along the lines of masterclasses looking at teaching styles, and learning styles, and bullying, and coping with disruption - as well as places for teachers just to talk. Any thoughts on what you'd like to see?

Thanking you muchly in advance for any input! Cheers, Ellie

Having a place to post work and have it commented on is one of the reasons that I came here. Our school has a project page, and some of the children post their work from time to time. They like this, although I am sometimes worried about the response they get. I took this step once h2g2 was acquired by the BBC, as I felt that it ensured a safe place for people to look.

FOr myself, I would like a place to share resources, although lots already exist. I would ideally like a place to share good resources, which is easy to navigate. The one's set up by the DfES are pants and terrible to navigate to.

Discussion forums always go down well, as long as there's a real purpose behind it. But, again, these seem to already exist to an adequate degree, and I think you'd have a hard time competing with the existing ones.

I would love to see more plans being shared. Mostly I spend time copying my plans from one source to another. However, I would love to copy plans from specialist teachers and adapt them for myself, preferably downloading them in word format. I know some teachers abhor the idea of this, but I think it would be a real time saver, downloading plans on a Sunday afternoon, instead of re-inventing them again and again, and again!

BTW, I'm a primary school teacher.

Cheers Ad - that's really useful. Where's your school's project page (I'd really like to take a look). When you say worried about the response - do you mean that people can be hypercritical (maybe not realising the work is done by kids)?

The lesson plans stuff is interesting. Have seen US sites that do that but nothing here.

Thanks, Ellie

As for the response to children's work on h2g2, I know that this is meant to be a forum for everyone, although there could be the odd inappropriate response.

Yes, lesson plans - that would be excellent to post a lesson plan and then be able to use it. If anyone knows of good UK sites that do this, please let me know. I think the US one's actually dumb it down a bit, and their plans seem a bit short. They're also not linked to LS and NS.

Oh, and I don't want another forum to chat to teachers - I've had enough of them by the time I get home - if I do want to talk it's to anyone about anything, not teachers about school! In my opinion, I wouldn't go there - a lot of them already exist.
