Delving into the past...

About 2 and a half weeks prior to the posting of this entry.

I came down from Ben Vorlich and followed a winding farm road to the A82, where I proceeded to walk north to Ardlui. The low level of concentration required for walking along the road (compared to tackling the wet scree slopes of Ben Vorlich in the dead of the night) meant that I could sing along to the songs that I'd written down to take with me (I don't have a CD player, and I wouldn't trust one to stand up to the punishment I'd put it through.). At Ardlui, I replenished my dwindling supplies of sweets and pepperami sticks (the healthy way of traveling is to eat junk food) and had a brief conversation with the shop keeper (which would later prove to be a significant encounter). This done, I headed up to Inverarnan, ordered haddock and chips at the Drovers Inn (which is the best establishment I've ever seen), listened to a trio of sailors talk about how one of them was getting charged with something or other (too wild on the R+R possibly) and set off once more across the bridge to the extensive mountain range east of the A82. A hefty but oddly unstrenuous climb took me to a wide hanging valley hemmed in with mountain peaks. This high area was one of the most interesting places I've seen in Scotland. Forget Castles and Lochs, this place had deep, narrow chasms stretching 7 meters down between cracked granite blocks, icy tarns, winds so strong that you could run up the side of a mountain with them at your back and not lose your breath and even the occasional lizard. Unfortunately, the weather closed in on me at his point, so I found myself getting slightly wet that night.

Delving into the past...

About 2 and a half weeks prior to the posting of this entry.

I had planned for the trip from Ben Ime to Ben Vorlich to pass without incident, but I found myself geographically embarassed (lost to most people). The map I was using was an old AA road map which only paid passing attention to the hills (I was too cheap to buy an ordinance survey map), so I spent a considerable while clibing the wrong hills, puzzling over my compass and trying to fashion flint axe heads (You try walking on your own for days on end. Let's see if you don't get bored on occasion.). I eventually made it to Ben Vorlich in time to camp down again, remark on the lingering snow and get a short, garbled message through on my mobile telling my mum that I was still alive.

Delving into the past...

About 3 weeks prior to the posting of this entry.

After a day and a half of walking, I came to Arrochar, where I got a fish supper at a chip shop called 'The Attic'. They were a bit crappy, but still warmly welcomed. The rst of that day was spent climing 'The Cobbler' before I found somewhere to bed down on Ben Ime (The secret is to find a flat spot.) As for 'The Cobbler', I spent a good while climbing the ragged, rocky and rather dangerous east face, only to discover once I reached the summit that there was a nice easy path going up the other side. Doh!

Delving into the past...

About 3 weeks prior to the posting of this entry.

I packed my towel, bought a load of junkfood, planned a route over 125 kilometers of rough, mountanous terrain and got a lift to the west shore of Loch Lomond. From there I headed west into the hills, and followed the peaks north, running parrallel to Loch Lomond and summiting every hill that I came accross. The midges were terrible down by the shore line, but they were thankfully absent at 1,400 feet.

Delving into the past...

Possibly 4-5 weeks prior to the posting of this entry.

I started a book. I don't have a title for it yet, but I know the basic structure I'm going to follow. I've mapped out the characters and the universe they live in. It's a sci-fi action/romance, following the mis-adventures of Aaron, Krista and a computer called Zex.
