I know I'm a bit early, but the southern upland way was closed due to foot and mouth, so I had to select a different route measuring a mere 160km.

Gnnnnnhhhhh......

I'm back, and I've brought some friends with me. Just a few million pathogenic bacteria that I picked up from some contaminated river water. They seem very happy in my gut at the moment. Judging by the source of the pain I'd place them in the fist few feet of my small intestine, but I may be wrong. Music to walk by...

At the moment I'm buisy typing up all my favourite songs so that I have something to sing when I'm away. I don't have a portable CD player, and even if I did I wouldn't have enough batteries to keep it going for 18 days. And even if I did have enough batteries, I wouldn't want to put my CD collection or the CD player through the exceedingly rough treatment of a 340km trek, so I just write all the songs down and take them with me that way. They get soggy and turn to the consisctency of wet toilet paper after a while, but it's better than loosing £100+ of electronics and CD's.

An expedition
Posted Aug 7, 2001
I got some new gear (£300 for breathable over-trousers, a gore-tex jacket, walking sticks and a GPS system) and planned an expedition along the Southern upland way - a 340 kilometer walk through the border hills. It should take me around 18 days, and I'm leaving on Sunday or there abouts.
