So we are still looking to get an MG........
A friend of a friend has one for sale, and apparently it's in good condition. I have provisionally agreed to see it Christmas eve, so we shall see how it goes....

I know an MG is a sports car, but what does MG actually stand for?

Morris Garages. It is related to the Morris of Morris Minor but I think the sports cars were a spin off sometime around WWII.
