As you probably recall, SoRB recently said:
"....you are aware that I am English, and you've frequently expressed hatred of everything American, and the language in particular."
So my question is, why do you hate America? Although, obviously, due to the context I have no way of knowing if that's actually your opinion or not, but if it is........ ??
I have a question for you.

I actually don't hate America, and I thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt!
However, I "do* have an extreme animus against America's foreign policy through-out the 20th and early 21st centuries, and I am sure you understand why.
As for the language, my problem is American "cultural hegemony"... I live in New Zealand, and the New Zealand variety of English is rapidly being extinguished, over-taken by the American variety. We're in transition right now, and that transition causes all sorts of misunderstandings, all trivial so far thankfully, though goodness knows what could happen! With variant meanings for such words as pants/trousers, and chips/crisps etc, so the trivial misunderstandings arise...
But no, I don't hate America. I don't hate the American language, I simply don't think it belongs here. and I used the Americanism I did, simply because decades of almost exclusively American film and TV (we see almost no non-American TV here), means that it was the first thing that came to mind.
That it annoyed SorB was simply a bonus!

Well no, not particularly. Why?
I have a question for you.

Well, for starters, their role in over-throwing Mossadeq in Iran in 1953, the Vietnam war, various machinations in Central and South America, the invasions of Iraq, and Afghanistan, the subtler overthrow of Gough Whitlam's government in Australia in the 1970s...
What a friend of mine calls 'American exceptionalism"...
I could go on but I won't.
