Green, Gemmell and Flewelling

Hi Della, I was lurking in a couple of threads and I saw you mention Simon R. Green and David Gemmell in a few threads. Simon R. Green is one of my favourite authors and I like some of Gemmell. I thought you might like to try my absolute favourite author - Lynn Flewelling. The Nightrunner series is great. "Luck in the Shadow" is the first book, and the best IMO.

It's a bit hard to find, but totally worth it.

Thanks, uncharted666, I'll see what I can find! The Gemmell book I am currently reading is 'Wolf In Shadow', part one of one of his series. It's brilliant!

I've just finished Simon R Green's Hex in the City, the second of the Nightside series that I have read. I so hope there's another one! Hex In the City was pubbed this year, so who knows, maybe next year? I'll look for Flewelling, and hope I can find her. You're in NZ, aren'yt you, did you find her books here on in Aussie?

My son's just finished the book Scarab, by Catherine Fisher, part three of an awesome series. It's for 'kids', except not really, Catherine Fisher writes in a really mature way. If you want someone to read, check her out! smiley - magic

I got Flewelling's books in Australia, but I think you can get them here - at Dymocks, maybe?

Simon R Green's Nightside books are the only ones I haven't read. I love the Hawk and Fisher seris and the Blue Moon books. I really want him to do another series. Have you read the Deathstalker series?

I'll look for Catherine Fisher, thanks.

You really should read the Nightside series, it's so weird, but so good - it even has Terry Pratchett type humour here and there...

I must get on to the Deathstalker series - I nearly got one at our local library, I grabbed it, but despite being out on the shelf, it had a hold on it. (Which explains why holds sometimes take so long to get to the person who put them on.)

Jim is sorry he finished the book now, he's sad that he hasn't got it to read again! (That being said, he has two sets of Nursing 101 readings to do before the exams, not to mention a pile of half finished fantasy fiction on his bedside chair - notably a Garth Nix book from a series recommended by his English teacher at school last year.)

I am going to begin again reading 'Corbenic', a deep and dark Catherine Fisher novel, when I finish the David Gemmell. (I had put Corbenic aside to read Hex and the City, because library books have to take priority, and Jim owns Corbenic.)

Good news! I am at the library, and I just found and put a hold on a book by Lynn Flewelling. Surprisingly easy to find.

That's good - was the first one? (Luck in the Shadows or The Bone Doll's Twin)

Yes, it's thefirst one, yay! I didn't have the same luck with the Deathstalker books, however, because the first and second of the series are 'missing' - the library says that means misplaced, but a librarian told me once that they think that's an euphemism for 'stolen'. A new feature of the library website, is that members can recommend that they buy books, so I recommended they buy new copies. We'll see!
