h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, someone said s/he thought that's what the 'war on terror', 'war against Afghanistan' would turn into. Boys and girls, men and women, dig in to your trenches and get ready for a long foretaste of hell. I think people are already fed up with it, and we here are not even having to endure it. I've been trying to write a story about a woman having her first taste of combat in an army of ground troops invading a 'softened up' (by bombing) country. (On other planets, naturlich, I can't write mainstream) She will find out,my heroine Nerys, that war is he** and patriotism doesn't give you immunity to landmines,bombs and guns. BTW< Nerys is not just a Bajoran name, it's a Welsh one! I am stuck in the story, because for her 'conversion' to work, she has to be a gung ho militarist to begin with - and writing her ideas as if I believe them is harder than I thought it would be. Well, Pika-baby says it's 15:37 so it's time to go eat and drag Jimmy away from science.

I am a serious Star Trek fan - also Blakes 7, Dr Who, Ultraviolet and Stargate SG-1...
The story is staggering on - I took my son's advice and killed off 2 of the 4 soldiers Nerys is with - also, a boy in the village they go into. Thanks for yr encouragement!
