Don't know about Mad Beef, but I stay in Elandspark, very close to Alberton.

In, what was if I remember correctly until recently, the Northern Metropolitan Local Substructure of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Transitional Council - or Randburg, for short-, quite close to the Waterfront...!

Oh, I have people staying there (Randburg). when I visit Jhb, I hang around Greenside, Kenilworth and Bosmont.

Hi Snoeker!
just a question...why do Capetonians (is that how you spell it - Ive got the same problem with "jo-eys", ooops) visit Joburg? If we put aside all city patriotism (its hard to do, I guess), wouldn't you just rather stay in a "nice" place??? It would really interest me how you see JOburg, though...

the reason we go to JHB is because of all the capetonians there. thats it as far as I know.

hmm, how I see Joburg. Well, I've never worked there or stayed for longer than 2 weeks. Most of my time there was spent bumming around in Greenside (house sitting), partying, etc. So forgive me if I have a somewhat rose(alcohol) tinted view of Egoli. I LOVED IT!! I mean sure in terms of scenic beauty, it doesn't come close to the Cape, but I found the place has a charm of its own. I've only been there in summer and the climate was really nice (I like warm rain as opposed to our miserable type), and the light at dusk has a magical quality to it (you, know, the sun setting over the minedumps *sigh*). I dunno, maybe we could turn this into a guide entry (hitchhikers view of Jozi) ?

Lived in Kenilworth, JHB for about 4 years until we bought our house last year. Spent a lot of time in greenside when my hubby's cousin was staying there.
I just can't understand why you would want to hang around in Kenilworth!
Do you come to JHB often Snoeker?
Mad Beef: You say you're in Europe for four years? When did the 4yrs start, and when does it end?

Well, that's the problem - they only started in Feb... I'm coming down on a short holiday in September though (Thank God!).
By the way, I agree that this stuff should be a entrysized/entered. After all I recently saw the "Handbook South Africa" Travel guide entry on Joburg, which went along the lines of "not even the people who live there know why they live there" - which is really harsh, don't you think? (Joburg for President, la lala)

You make it sound like you don't want to be there! We'll have to think about maybe arranging a meet then!

I can see us having a very difficult time trying to get everybody together at the same time!

Well, I just might have good news - depending on the friendship of Tito Mboweni and Greenspan, I might be able to afford to come during end of December - beginning of Jan... I like the idea, come to think of it...

Excellent!!!
So what exactly are you doing so far from home?

I'm aiming to study business admin in Europe, most probably Gärmanny. For that I first needed to have some fun at trying my hand at photo-copying (ie. internship at a bank...) and that's where I'm now: at a bank in Luxembourg, boring myself to semideath and waiting for things to do, be it copying, filing, translating letters, or, in general, simply anything. By the way, my co-workers think that I finish the jobs that they do give me, extraordinarilly quickly. Says quite a bit about South African efficiency!
Accordingly, I thought of changing the speed of working to SA Post-Office standard (slow-go mode would be tooo slooooww....), but that would give me less time to write emails, check up on h2g2 (haven't been all that active though, I have to acknowledge) and SA news services, and just generally surf the web...
