hello, i'm st. broelan, an assistant community editor (or ace) and a guardian angel. it is my duty in both of those capacities to welcome you to the site. 
you simply must read the hitch hiker trilogy... they are simply the best books ever. and i'm not just saying that. i think douglas adams has been my favorite author and my leatherbound trilogy my favorite book for nearly fifteen years now. we were all very saddened to hear of his passing.
h2g2 is a wonderful place with many many things to do and great people to meet. unfortunately i'm not entirely prepared right now with my list of 'great links for new researchers', so i won't be of much help. surely another ace or angel will be by shortly with loads of info for you tho. you can also click on my name above and it will take you to my userspace, and there are links to other parts of the site there as well. be careful tho, some of my links go offsite
