Right.

The EPO totals column for validation and renewals includes renewals to 8 countries and the fees to agents in those countries. The last few lines should thus be:

Validation N/A 18*** 5 N/A 23***
Total Renewal Yrs 5-10 1.5 18*** 0.5 2 18.5***
Total Renewal Yrs 11-15 2.7 30*** 0.5 3.2 30.5***
Total Renewal Yrs 15-20 4.2 52*** 0.5 4.7 52.5***

That is, the totals including any ***ed number should also retain the ***.

Does that make sense?

Did you miss post 40?
That's all is left...it's the smiley - mod smiley in the text of your Entry, if you don't know how to do CTRL+F

Sorry - yes, you're right, I missed post 40.

The text is what I intended, but perhaps it only makes sense to me because I do this a lot. Would it be clearer as:

"Assuming that all goes well, after you have responded to one or two examination reports you should receive a shiny new patent.."

All looks good to me (although it's hard to see your own errors - you tend to read what you intended), but I have spotted:

In "What can I get a patent for" "(eg non-obvious)" should be "(ie non-obvious)", obviosuly smiley - winkeye

"methods of doing business and purely mathematic methods or un-extracted biological components are generally not patentable," should loose the "and" to be "methods of doing business, purely mathematic methods ....".

In Fallbacks:

"This makes for very boring reading, but allows you to claim protection for a much wider area around your invention as the technical field allows

Post 51

The last qoute in post 49 was clearly a bad edit on my part, and should probably have been:

"... claim protection for as wide an area around your invention ..."

"Rely on grace periods if you have to." should be "..periods only if you have to."

To get the positives and negatives right, I think:

"is not new, obvious, not an invention, and so forth (see above)."
needs to be

"is not new, is obvious, is not an invention ..."

Finally, I do think there should be a "next time consider patenting before you tell" type line at the end of the "what if I have told someone" section. Just because if you have told someone then you probably won't read any further! It's now in the last paragraph, which is also fine, but at risk of boring the reader even more (they would have to be pretty determined to reach the end anyway), I would be inclined to put something similar in both sections.

Thanks for all your help with this - it must be one of the heavier entries to subed!

No hurry - as I said, this must be the longest-pending entry in the history of the guide - the A-number of the original was several digits shorter than most in PR at the time!

Have a good evening, and if I've gone by the morning, you'll know I've been distrated by a newborn. Don't think I have any more to add anyway.

Hi Ugi smiley - smiley
I made some final changes last night, added some TM tags to the Trade Mark names you used (is iMac a trade mark?)

The first sub-header, if you don't like it (I added small-print) it can be changed to "Disclaimer" or "Caveat Emptor" or just "Small Print" - although I'm sure something this legal-based will have to go through the BBC lawyers' hands before it's published and the Eds will have the final say, so just be warned!smiley - winkeye

Also, you changed the Euros to "work-units" in PR, so in the legend the ** no longer applies, so I removed that. We now have (*) and (***) [only two legends] so would you like me to change the (***) to (**)?

Good morning GB!

or smiley - tea ? I could really use a or at this point, but I guess smiley - donut will do smiley - winkeye

TM - Ta' and yes, I'm sure iMac is a TM.

Header - I'm happay as it is. I just wanted something to cover my own rear. This was the real reason this entry stalled - I wasn't sure how something as legal-looking as this would be treated, so I wouldn't be the least surprised if Auntie pulled the whole thing. Hope not for your sake as much as mine - you've put a lot of time into this now too.

smiley - stars - yes, I thnk * and *** alone will leave people looking round for the **, so if you can change all ***s to **s then you're a smiley - star!

smiley - ta

I'm pretty sure they *won't* pull the plug. They check it (provisionally) before it's pulled from PR - if there's any potential problem (that they can see) they will post. Although, mine is not to second-guess the Eds and I certainly don't speak for them, all I can say is what *I* think (covering my own butt here)smiley - winkeye

I have known the Eds accept entries which have then not made it past the lawyers, so they languish in limbo (the unedited entries - not the lawyers) [one of them I had subbed] it's no great shakes (except for the unfortunate author, of course) and - of course, we are never told ~the reason~ for the rejection on the grounds of confidentiality (I asked and was told - in technical, legal-speak, that it was none of my beeswax).

I wish I'd known that was what was holding you back from submitting this. The Eds are an approachable bunch, quite willing to *tell you what to write* by way of a disclaimer (they won't write it for you - but they will tell you what to say - there's a difference) for example, I am not a medical person but I have life experience, but I am not qualified to give medical advice, but people needing procedures don't want to hear that (they get that from their own GP or nurse) they want to hear about it from someone who's _been through it_ not necessarily the medical jargon but something understandable, a real person behind the Entry. So I've written about swollen ankles; having a colonoscopy; having a barium enema procedure; a hysterectomy; that sort of stuff. Something I knew nothing of personally (but wanted to write about) was haematuria [because it happened to a friend of mine] and breast cancer [so many wonderful lives cut shortsmiley - rose] I was aided in writing the disclaimer at the beginning, here's the one on breast cancer: A32364344 (that is still awaiting a sub so may change before it's edited).

I'll go and add the TM to iMac and change *** to **

No reason at all why you can't have a at least you spelt that right (something I am famous for is my mis-spelling of smileys, getting something completely different - is that a malapropism?) - I also have a fondness for brackets both curved and straightsmiley - biggrin

It's the lawers I'm worried about, but what the heck!

It did ocurr to me that medical entries would be in a similar position. I might try to write and entry on delivering a baby in an emergency when my life calm down again - Mrs Ugi is having a home-birth and the midwife happened to mention that she hoped I could do so because if things go quickly then she might not be there in time smiley - yikes There's no entry on that so I had to reasearch elsewhere, and I thought it might be useful for others to know what I found .... we'll see what I get time for.#

Can't agree with you more re cancer touching lives - we lost my brother to melanoma last year age 31 smiley - rose. He would have been as excied as any of us at being an uncle again .

I think the wrong smiley must be malemoticonism, although I don't think that's a word yet, I'm sure it will be smiley - winkeye. I like to use simleys that don't exist yet - the nice thing is that when they do become "real" smileys, all your old posts are suddenly populated with smileys that didn't exist when they were written. It's the closest to time-travel I'm likely to see!

so s and s all round, and who knows, in a few years we might get them!

smiley - cheers

Ugi

Seriously, good luck with that (and there is a smiley for that) --->smiley - goodluck

If you want to give *me* the gen info (not too gory, mind) I will happily write that up for you and nurse it through PR etc., a sort of co-parenting role I'd be proud ofsmiley - blush oh what the heck, I'm making people's toes curl enough with my most-expensive-smiley - coffeein the smiley - earth in PR at the momentsmiley - evilgrinso let both barrels go!smiley - puff
