Ode du Summer Meet 2003
Posted Jul 1, 2003
Well, I'm on the train as I write this tail into my palm, as interesting as it sounds there are more horrible things that could have happened but today speaks of a very DoctorMOish outing in which:
I wake up, 7:05am, "Oh ####" Oh no missed my very early train, I even went to bed at 9pm for god sakes to catch! Oh dear, Oh Dear!
Out of bed get ready, I can still get on a train if I explain that I missed my train, right ready, no belt no towel, my sisters had her friends over again and things disapear. I pack a spare towel. I phone a taxi as it arrives I check to make sure I have money and my debit card. Both gone and a waiting taxi. I rush back in doors to do a quick frantic search of my room in case of dropping it. nope. I have to tell the taxi to leave with my apoligies. Oh bugger this is turning into a real slog. little did I know.
At this point I'm worried, I search more for my debit card. more and more the stress on my stress builds up my pants fall further down and I decide to to check at work, since I had it out at work on the friday. bit a cycle later, not at work. rush back home do some more searching, pick up my cheque books and decide to go to the bank... my bank is near were I work another 3 mile cycle, closed, bugger. 4 miles cycle to the widnes branch, closed. so I get so disheartened at this point, I'm thinking I'll never get to the meet, I have no money, no ticket and no backup. But I feel that the world can go shove, I'm getting to that meet one way or another! I ride back to runcorn were the station is, put my bike at work were I can lock it safely, go to the train station with the intention of foolishly just getting on the next euston train anyway, I was pritty pissed at this point. no money, no credit cards nothing, worthless ticket.
I calm down a little while I wait, I realise that by just getting on a train bound for some place is not the brightest idea. a Liverpool train pulls up on the other platform, i get on it with the neat idea of seeking an open HSBC were I can get some money. I get cought on the train because I have no ticket and the train driver is sympathetic and dosn't write me a fine, I only gota send them the money for the ticket. (cross fingers)
I get to Liverpool. I ask around for the HSBC, I find it, the bluddy customer counters are closed. fortunatly the customer services isn't. so I report my card stolen and convince them to let me withdraw £100 as an emergency service. Thank god some nice people work at these places, I'm thinking of leaving HSBC, it's silly that I should have to go to Warington to get money on a saturday. I make my way back to Lime Str.
I get lost at this point, it takes me 15 min to find Liverpool Lime street again. I buy a SINGLE to EUSTON, and not suprisingly £49 for just one way, but I don't care at this point and luky for me the train is just waiting at the platform for me. (for a change)
I get on, I cry, what a struggle. I crossed the mersey 8 times, cycled over 20 odd miles and spent more money than I could afford to, I feel like life does these things to teach me a leason. either that or it just wants me to be graitfull I get to go to the meet.
*Monday (i.e today)*
Well today I got switch card for my other bank account, should my other one get nicked. I have also asked for a credit card so I can stick it in a lead box and curse at it. lets hope these precautions can avoide the absalute cr*p next time. *sigh*

The Fruits of Know and World
Posted Jun 19, 2003
Is what we know all that is?
Or are people all that know?
Knollage comes at such high costs,
And yet we strive for more and more.
Until one day in dying vein,
We settle down to a life of way.
Which in the end of all you know,
Does nothing for what becomes of all.
People may travel the world
looking for peace
Only to find
They were looking the wrong way

Doth fait trod on my toe?
Posted Jun 19, 2003
Well today has been interesting, first of all this new weel I put on my bike is a bit shit, the innertube poped out, rubbed against the breaks and went down faster than a large rock. So I had no choice I had to walk the 5 miles down town to get it fixed, but it was Thursaday and Linkers are shut. so I stomped off the Geddies were you never gues what they only happened to be filming. Not that I cared, only it was right in front of the shop, I manged to get in eventualy after meeting the police, droped the bike off after telling the guy in the shop what needed doing.
So I stomp back off, go to find a bus stop I say to myself, get to work an hour late. So I wander around and because they've just gone and remoddled the town and the bus routs it takes me an hour to find a bus stop going the right way. *sigh*
So in work, I explain that the bike is in a bit of a state, and I needed to get it fixed. they were cool about it. work got under way with a totaly fustraiting new platform which involves GNU tools we can't plug into more GNU tools (the IDE) so I gota learn how to do console debuging and compiling in windows under a bash shell. lovly. not only that the dev kit is really quite crap and I must write an interface for it before I can begin my port.
So I got stuck alot and sort some entertainment, the post was a good bet today. brilliant work guys! but the postmaster forums were very slow, they have been like that alot these days.
Some good news, I now know the dates when Teru is over to visit, so I'll hopefully have my first real holiday week. YaY. and things are looking up.
Work finsihes, I convince my bos to drive me to the bike shop so that I may pick up my bike ready for tomorow, it was only shut because of the filming. so I had to trudge home after telling my bos I'd be fine round the corner, got some food on the way home and though up a rather nice Linux System.
Oh what a day!

So what do you do when you want to get togather with someone thats on the other side of the world?
I can see the distance is really going to make things hard. but I can see how it could improve things a bit by making me not so snoying or tiresom. (which I know I can be)
And do people think some thorntans DHLed to the US would be an idea?

Life In the Universe and Everything
Posted Jun 17, 2003
OK so now it apears I must move from the original idea.
Well there is one major reason why I've gone for buying. RENTING COSTS MORE. belive it or not, renting a property even a small one would cost me £300 to £400 pcm, a morgage on a small house would cost me £200 to £300 depending. I think it has somthing to do with ruthless land lords, high demand for renting (low income area in general, people are afraid to buy) and the fact that there are alot of houses on the market pushes the prices down to buy. my boss joined our company last year, he moved from down south, from a 2 bedroomed terrace which he sold for £170k and got a 4 bedroomed detached for 160k here. what a joke.
I know it seems derastic to go from Home to Buying your own place, but I don't really have to many options. and as my boss said, I can always rent the spare rooms out and that can help to keep things above the water line.
I live and hope
