I thought your guide entry was nice but maybe just a tad,but only a tad too short. You are welcome to diagree with me but I have taken a vow of patience and longsuffering and sadly this means I can only 1)sigh in amartyr like way 2) agree sadly or3) maintain a meaningful silence whilst I ponder the possibilities of your point of view however cretinous it might be . Of course in your case nothing cretinous has been said and I used to live in Adelaide so who am I to judge. And on the cricket point the best years for me were when the chappels reigned.

Ah! Who can forget the Chappells. I was of course recently reminded of them when I found a guide entry in which an American asked for an explanation of cricket. It must have been an English person who, when explaining the finer points of the game, mentioned that incident in which some horrible Kiwi bowled underarm to an Australian batsman.

It's sort of like hitting your little brother and having your sister get the blame.

Anybody who tries to explain anything to a Merkin is onto a sticky wicket situation. They mean well, they want to learn and are sincere in their desire to hear you say your piece but they are unable to understand anything that doesn't go quickly, arrive instantly ,speak like a texan or want to bomb anything with a foriegn sounding name(or a lot of oilfields). I once laughed at their idea of football and asked why they only ran a quarter of the way down the field and then dropped the ball but it was like wading through candy floss in desert boots. How is oz this fine day...this fine evening I mean

Oz is fine, perhaps too fine actually as some rain would be nice. It is also far enough away from the rest of the world and its bad news that as long as we keep quiet, perhaps no-one else will know we are here and they will just let us keep enjoying life. This, of course, is the cue taken by the Kiwis who wisely decided to cancel their air force since a) those toys are very expensive, b) petrol stations on the way to NZ are few and far between and c) who would bother anyway?

Having just returned from two weeks vacation at the beach it was a bit sobering to hear about the crazies setting off bombs in Bali. And then the Pakistan cricket team, with record low scores of 59 and 53 in their two innings, seemed very keen indeed to get the heck out of Sharjah. I wonder what the odds were for that!smiley - run

Everything ok with you and your folks? One of the britons who died was known to our family in Cornwall. I don't get it, if you really want to voice your outrage at American foriegn policy ,why blow up Australians on holiday? Cricket is on a bit of a backburner at the moment because of the footy now...always like the begiining of the season even if the F.A cup final is almost a foregone conclusion. Whose rugby team was caught in this Bali thing? I hope you had a good holiday

Lots of different footy teams of all sorts from all over the country lost people in Bali. Fortunatley, I am not aware that I knew anyone personally. And now there is some nutter in the US who has an aversion to people buying petrol or hardware.

And as you say, what did the Bali mission achieve - particulalry if no-one claims (ir)resonsibility for the act. It was well-timed to get those alcohol drinking visitors but I somehow don't think it was done by the temperence league.

But the holiday at the beach was great.smiley - cheerup

Ironically enough with the exception of a few parts I went to,I found America to be one of the least licentious places in the West.I stayed in several 'dry' towns and even got warned by the cops in New Jersey for carrying licquor around because it wasn't in a brown paper bag!!!! And then there is the whole state of Utah!!!!!!! If fanatics want to target corruption then they should go to the Far East or Sweden .

You sure do get around. Adelaide, Cornwall and now Utah! Well, not much difference there, I suppose. I suspect that Las Vegas might be a bit different. How long were you in Adelaide?
