Greetings!
Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Started conversation May 18, 2001
Hello to you, your friend and the other one!
My name is Clive and I am one of the ACES of H2G2. That stands for Assistant Community Editor, we are the official meeters and greeters of H2G2 and generally just wanderin' round dispensing help and cool advide if it's needed. I saw in a conversation with Temporarilyimortalised, that you were having some problems changing you name. This can be done very easily, under Preferences.
In Here you can change: Your name as it appears in all forum posts (I'm a Warlord!!!!). Your e-mail contact as it is displayed at the top of the front page when *you* are logged in. and also the 'skin' that H2G2 is displayed. Personally I can't be having with the white alabaster version (although it is quicker to load on slower browsers.) and prefer using Classic Goo. But by all means try these things out for yourself!
To help you orientate yourself aound the site, here are some useful links: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Smiley for a list of smilie codes that can be used in conversation forums like this one...
Nifty, no?
One of the most popular conversation forums is http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/askh2g2 - here you can post a question and engage
with the rest of the community. The forums form one half of the site, they are were researchers meet and chat. Forums stem from particular Guide Entries writtten by researchers and they can be about anything at all. The site supports two methods of writing. You can use either Plain Text or if you want to make a page look special you can use a specialised code system called GuideML. It is terribly simple to use (I've never even touched compouter code and I can use GuideML, so you can too! ) A really helpful place to start then is the GuideML Clinic, which can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/GuideML-Clinic
It explains the basic structure of GuideML, how to use it and is the best place to go, if you need any help or get stuck using it. You personal Space counts as a guide entry and can also be created using GuideML.
If you are stuck for anything else you could try first checking the Don't Panic! Help Pages: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/dontpanic or if you fancy it come and talk to the rest of the ACES here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/ACES - we are a friendly bunch.
If you want to reply to this message you can by clicking on the reply button in the corner, I will know if you do because my page dispalys a record of all conversations I have taken part in and have replies to. If you want to stop by my page as well, you are
more than welcome. I am here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U113478
