Amazing, thankyou, nice trick there with the shape changing, but then I suppose its pretty easy for pan dimensional beings.

Hey Vogonpoet - welcome to the University - sorry I didn't notice before. Been involved in quite an entertaining flame war that overspilled from Peer Review this week.

NO worries? What flame war was that then?
I have noticed a few tempermental beings on there of late, but I havent yet caught up with it today...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F67082?thread=121719 That might be the end of that really. It all began over an article on intelligence

Yes well, I thought the intelligence thread was looking interesting - the centrifugal force entry caused a few people to get upset too - I think it is a good sign that people are willing to take this very-much-not-neccesarily-based-on-the-assumption-that-this-web-site-should-become-a-sober-encyclopedia-of-life guide so seriously, although when things get personal its not so good obviously.
As for Arpeggio, managaged to keep out of threads with that researcher so far - got scared .
Ace**** . Well it was bound to happen eventually - just amazing it hasnt been used more often, not because the Aces arent wonderful, because they are, but because there are quite a few red dwarf fans around here, and Arnold "Ace" Rimmer should have planted the thought into their heads by now.....
Ach well

Yes, ACE**** is definitely Arpeggio's best contribution to h2g2 so far.
I took part in the centrifugal force thing for a while - quite amusing but conducted between sane individuals so its kind of resolving itself.
Have you seen the Coriolis Effect thread? That's even baffling PhD physicists now! .
Arpeggio is scary huh? Interesting, a few ACEs have been suggesting she might be scaring off some people.

I saw her in action in the right-to-be-flamed How to get an abortion thread - sure it was insensitive, sure things needed to be said, but the amount of repeatedly saying things already said and general nastiness which wasnt neccesary to make point was a bit strong in IMHO.
Havent got round to the Coriolis thread yet - I always prefer to read the back log at the peer review before I read the article, and it takes a while Might just go take a gander though...

Wait, have I missed an Arpeggio rant?

Phew! That took a while- its a good entry, maybe I should mention that on the thread.
What a shame no one picked up on your spetroscopy example - I am very impressed - I hope I remember as much about it in 10 years time as you seem to - Just learnt the whole R-branch S-branch thing last year, and I 'll be damned if I can remember everything I learnt about it even now . Will be good to get back to lectures and swat up on that sort of thing - A year doing research hasnt improved my academic standards much, although it has been enough for me to now seriously consider doing a PhD if the people at edinburgh let me
.

Hmmm, OK that wasn't entertainment I didn't even bother finshing her first post...
Thankyou for the compliment - a bit unnecessary really. I was jsut trying to point out theat the Coriolis effect *does* exist and unfortunately the spectroscopy thing is the only proof about it I know.
Didn't realise we had similar fields of study - good luck with the studying - personally I wouldn't bother with doing a PhD unless you want to be an academic these days - the job prospects just aren't any better these days than they used to be and you end up in more debt.
That's coming from someone a bit jaded by it all though so just ignore me you want to.

Jaded is a good state sometimes methinks.
I am not yet sure what I want from life - a job in some big polluting multinational chemistry company isnt neccesarily where I want to be - if I can justify myself to myself being a perpetual student doesnt sound like a bad idea at the moment - its lots of fun, and as a young man, still naively full of enthusiasm for the joys of learning I seem to find chemistry pretty fascinating - particularly all the horribley difficult quantum stuff - until I get sick of every "answer" providing 100 more questions I would like to study further.
Or maybe I go and become a strawberry picker in Serbia...
